Additional tip when there is already a service charge added?

I just wanted opinions if you add an additional tip when there is already a service charge added on your bill. I know Canadians have a bad rep in Vegas regarding tipping to begin with, but i believe a tip is based on the quality of service. Some restaurants with groups of a certain number or more add a service charge and also room service in hotels.

If the tip is already included in the bill....I do not tip on top of that...but i wish they didn%26#39;t do that...cuz it makes me uncomfortable to NOT personally tip when room service arrives.

It%26#39;s not unusal to see the automatic tip on your bill for a large group, (it happens here in Vancouver). If the service was bad, you should talk to the manager. Otherwise, no you do not need to tip any more.

You do not need to add an additional tip when the service charge is already added to the bill....unless the service you received was exceptional, in which case it would be nice if you gave something extra.

I always wind up tipping the room service sever even if gratuity was already calculated in. I feel cheap letting them leave without handing them something.

I do what Sherry does. If it%26#39;s added already, as a rule I rarely add anything additional. Where it says ';additional tip,'; I write in ';already added in'; so they know I%26#39;m not ignoring them.

I usually tip 20 - 25% and feel that if they%26#39;re going to be so presumptuous as to take away my discretion by adding 15 - 18%, they won%26#39;t get the better tip. Now, if service truly is exceptional, I%26#39;ll vary from my rule.

I only tip extra if they did something truly exceptional to make my dinner that much more enjoyable. If it was just the regular service - no, I do not leave an additional tip.

A sservice charge is not always a gratuity - sometimes it%26#39;s a ';convienence'; charge sometimes it%26#39;s just a load of bull but you have to pay it. The number one thing you should always do is ask the server, not the hostess, not the busboy, if there is any gratuity added onto the bill. I have found that everytime I ask this in Vegas, especially with room service, I%26#39;ve been told that none of the charges on the bill go to the server/runner, that service charge goes to the house.

I do realize that most places outside of Vegas do include a gratuity on room service. It seems in Vegas to be different. I found this at the Flamingo and at MGM/Grand in Dec, no gratuity on the bill.

Just ask! Not many people are going to risk their job by lieing to you and saying there is no grat when there is, just to get you to double tip.

Like some of the others I always tip at least 20%. Usually at restaurants when tip is included its around 17%, so I will add at least another 3% when I sign the credit card slip.
