Credit Card cash advances in Casinos?

I%26#39;m not exactly a seasoned gambler-but I have done a little on a few cruises. On the cruiselines I know that you can get cash advances on your credit cards at the casino-is the same true for Las Vegas? If so does that include American Express?

Now before I get lectured-I know its a bad habit to get into, but due to unforseen circumstances we may have a little less cash to bring on our trip next month. I just wondered if this will be an option should we need the extra cash.

Unfortunatley going to college in Vegas I know this all TOO well. Yes you can. It has been years since I have done it, but the service charge is something like $13 for every $100 advanced. Im almost positive you can take advances on AMEX as well. If not there is a AMEX location in Vegas where you can go to get cash or replace a lost card, etc.

I think you have to have a PIN to get cash on your Amex in the casinos.

There are those machines located in every casino, in several locations. It%26#39;s a big money maker for the casino and banks. You must have a PIN# for your credit card or you cannot get cash. The fees are really high as it%26#39;s considered a cash advance plus the casino gets their share. When you use this you basically lose twice. You most likely lose in the casino, but hopefully have a good time doing so then you go back home from your great Vegas trip and 2-3 weeks later you owe the money you already lost plus rediculous fees on top of it.

If you go up to the cage and request an advance you dont need a Pin# (unless things have recently changed). It was like running a sale on your card where you do not need a pin.

I think what GoodBeer is referring to is not an ATM-based cash advance. These are done at little kiosks with a telephone and they say ';not a cash-dispensing machine.'; The way they work is that it is processed as a purchase by the casino, therefore it%26#39;s not subject to your daily limit on cash advances. This service tacks on a service fee, dependent on how much you want. There is no need for a PIN, just like you don%26#39;t need a PIN for a store purchase. You start the transaction at that kiosk and finish it at the cashier%26#39;s cage. If you do this a lot, it%26#39;s definitely time for Gambler%26#39;s Anonymous!

You can get credit card cash without a pin number. The cost is $90 for a $1000.00. I don%26#39;t know if it works the same Amex.

Thank you for the responses. Yes, what I was referring to (and what they do on cruise ships) is actually at the cashier window-it is processed like an actual sale-so no PIN is required. I guess that is what you mean by ';this is not a cash dispensing machine';-it sounds like it is done a little differently in the Vegas casinos but the same idea.

By the way this wouldn%26#39;t be for gambling money...I just wanted to know that it is a possiblity should we require a little extra spending cash!

Not many people think about it, but it is easy to get a small line of credit at the casino and the fees are a lot less.

lines of credit are not easy if you can%26#39;t qualify. most likely, someone who is interested in a cash advance because they are currently cash poor could not qualify for a casino line of credit.

never hurts to ask - call the cage, get an app and fax back. takes about 5-7 working days. you have to have enough credit to cover you credit line, some casinos have min lines they will approve. call the cage and ask. if you do get and use a line of credit you typically have 30 days to pay - again, ask specifically at your casino cage
