Super Bowl Weekend

Hi Folks....

Me and my friends are heading to Laughlin for the Super Bowl. Where%26#39;s the best place to watch the game and party? Any parties or celebrations planned?

Thanks.

MG

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Super Bowl Weekend

i think the best spot is inside the colorado belle at the brew pub the boiler room

Super Bowl Weekend

Seeing youre from California, may I suggest Las Vegas.

Just kidding............Tarzans at the Nugget is probably the best. No real parties planned.

paris las vegas internet

can anyone tell me.... does paris offer wireless internet? if so, is it actually reliable. i have been to countless hotels who offer it but the signals are too weak.

paris las vegas internet

not sure about in your room but their business center, located in the walkway that connects paris to bally%26#39;s has internet access with either your or their computer for a nominal charge

paris las vegas internet

If you don%26#39;t mind a short walk you could go to the Coffee Bean at the shops at Aladdin/Planet Hollywood where they offer free wifi.

  • Seafood Buffet on a Monday or Tuesday night??

It%26#39;s easy to find a good seafood buffet on a Friday night, but how about on a Monday or Tuesday.

*Note: We will have a car (not tied to the strip), and I am specifically interested in all-you-can-eat crab legs (over-eating crab is my 3rd favorite vice!).

Seafood Buffet on a Monday or Tuesday night??

Downtown at the Fremont at the Paradise Buffet and Cafe ,they have a Seafood Fantasy Dinner on Tuesday from 4-10 for $15.99.Alway%26#39;s had a good meal there.

Seafood Buffet on a Monday or Tuesday night??

Orleans has a Monday night seafood buffet, it is off strip, you may be able to get the shuttle if they aren%26#39;t checking room keys at Barbary Coast. They were not checking in Dec.

Here is a list of buffets, I skimmed it briefly, it tells the specials for each casinos buffet. My experience is most buffets have crab legs on their dinner buffet. Most are chiled, not hot. Hope this helps some.

    http://www.a2zlasvegas.com/food/buf-list.php3

I%26#39;d suggest hitting the Wynn. They always have split crab legs on their dinner buffet and I%26#39;ve always found them to be sweet, fresh %26amp; very tasty. Their shrimp is good too and they offer a number of other fish dishes you might enjoy.

I forgot to menion- I agree that lots of the big sprit buffets include crab legs on their dinner menues. I had them at Paris a couple of weeks ago and we a bit disappointed because the crab legs weren%26#39;t split, just cracked in few places, so eating was a messy task. I imagine they go through fewer crab legs due to that.

green valley ranch has both hot and cold crab legs (my bf and I are all for the hot) and we went on a Weds night...however nothing else was worth eating, but were more than satisfied with the amount of crab we polished off!

Best way to win money in Vegas

Obviously i know there aren%26#39;t games hidden in Vegas where you can double your money instantly, but are there any games in Vegas where if you follow a set method you can make some proper cash?

I read that if you follow basic strategy in Blackjack, you stand a good chance of coming away with money. But i was thinking if anyone had any specific strategies they have previously used in other games that have worked for them?

Best way to win money in Vegas

if there was an answer to this, vegas would not exist.

Blackjack played in 3/2 table with optimal strategy provides the lowest house edge... but they still have the edge.

    Taz

Best way to win money in Vegas

True, although i didn%26#39;t mean guaranteed strategies that mean you never lose, i meant does anyone have any personal tactics that they have found to work in certain games, or strategies they have learnt/been told that help.

Everything you need to know about this topic. Ignore personal systems and tactics that deviate from the norm. In the short term any method may prove successful, but over a long period of play the house edge will always get the better of it.

    Priceline.com for car rentals?

I went to this sight and can get a car for $15.00 a day. Does anyone know if there is a catch when you get to the airport. Can you take them out of State, to the Grande Canyon?

    Priceline.com for car rentals?

Most rental car companies you can take out of state,15.00 is a good price but that does not include taxes and fees.

    Priceline.com for car rentals?

    Fees, what kind of fees?

    Natamour,

We have always used Priceline for our rental cars, but i go by their prices listed and then do the bid and underbid by a few dollars. We%26#39;ve used 3 different places and all had airport checkin, and then shuttle to car. All very easy and we%26#39;ve been 100% pleased everytime.

We just got back and I bid $15 for a midsize and it was through Avis. On their website, same car was $25 a day. If they don%26#39;t accept your 1st offer, you can always change it, by choosing different type of car and different price.

Good luck and have a great time!!

    Micky

We also used Priceline for a car rental in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago. Our bid was for $9.00 per day for 4 days over a weekend and they accepted it! The total with taxes was $64.00. Can%26#39;t beat that!! We also ended up with Avis. Best car rental ever. We bid on an economy car but there were none available when we arrived so we received an upgrade to a compact car.

    Great experience!

I just used Priceline to rent a car for my March trip. The prices on Expedia, Travelocity and the individual rental sites were running about $255 for seven days. I named my own price, and ended up with a rental for seven days for $150. IMO, there%26#39;s no reason not to use Priceline for rental cars. My only advice would be to start low. I started bidding at $15 a a day, and won on the first bid. I think I could have probably won with a lower bid.

Natamour Fees taxes airport tax concession tax ,ect, just like you pay taxes and fees on airline tickets.

Can you take these cars out of state?

Also check out hotwire.com. I usually book through them.

natamour, I just noticed you are in Canada. You will need to check with your auto insurance company to see if your insurance will cover you while you are in the US. If not, then you will need to add inurance to the cost of the rental car.

  • To golfinvegas

Hi, I knew you suggested wolfcreek in this forum. Do you know if it happens to be more crowded on saturday and friday than thursday? It would make a huge difference to me as a beginner.

How long in advance do you book tee time? I%26#39;m going to LV late Feb but can%26#39;t book tee time now until few days before leaving.

I would appreciate any suggestions. thank you.

    To golfinvegas

Played Wolf Creek last week and it%26#39;s unbelievable. I played on tuesday 23rd and it was wide open Definately play it midweek over going at the week-end. Also, as a scratch player, to be brutally honest if you%26#39;re a beginner I wouldn%26#39;t play it..... it%26#39;s way too difficult!! I don%26#39;t think you would enjoy your round. But hey, it%26#39;s your money and golf balls!!!!!

Go to their web site golfwolfcreek.com and check out the rates and if you leave it to a few days before you play ,click on the link at the bottom to ';hot tee times'; and get a better rate on selected tee times!

Courses closer to Vegas worth playing are Rio Secco(lightning fast greens), Revere at Anthem(Concord course), Boulder Creek out at Boulder City is pretty good as well. Also the sun or snow course at Paiute could be good for you.

If you want to try and get the best rate at courses other than a phone in rack rate try lasvegasgolfadventures.com and talk to Brad.

Anything else re. golf in vegas just ask ....I%26#39;ll try and help.

    Jerry.

    To golfinvegas

Jerry, Thanks for your great suggestions! I %26#39;m sure you had a great time at WC and probably got good score too :) Was it cold in Mesquite than in LV? Did you have good sunny day at the course?

Snow and Sun look fab! Which one would you pick (as for back up)? Aren%26#39;t they even busier than WC being closer to town? I still hope to get tee time at WC. If it%26#39;s not busy, there%26#39;s a chance for enjoyable game(without scoring of course). I don%26#39;t have to worry about people behind, keep letting them pass, and be able to peace myself and focus. If it%26#39;s busy schedule, I wouldn%26#39; t dare to play there.

128, I am a local who plays a lot. All golf courses are busier on weekends as reflected in green fees.

Wolf creek is popular, but right now till March, demand is low due to cold weather and deteriorated course conditions.

How many are in your party? None of the courses will take tee times for just one. If you are by yourself, don鈥檛 sweat it, just show up as a walk on. Don鈥檛 worry about slowing anybody down; there will be a lot of high handicappers out in front of you. Just be ready to pick your ball up and move forward if you fall behind the group in front of you, and play ready golf.

Since I am local and a PGA member, I don鈥檛 make tee-times, so not sure how far in advance you can make tee time reservations at Wolf Creek. Many of the 3rd party reservation systems allow you to make them 90-days out.

Vegashomeboy, It%26#39;s party of two(hubby and I, both beginners).

Thanks for your encouragement. I%26#39;m looking forward to playing there hopefully wednesday or thursday.

    Hey 128,

Weather was great ...no real difference between l.v and mesquite. Although cool in the early morning I never saw a cloud during my 9 day business trip. Being a cold blooded scot, 60 F constitutes a cool summer%26#39;s day! Wolf Creek was in great shape condition wise so no worries there. As for Sun or Snow it%26#39;s a flip of a coin. Although it%26#39;s closer to Vegas, Pauite is still 20 miles north on I-95 so if you are staying at the south end of the strip it%26#39;s still a good 35-45 min drive. I was there last Monday lunchtime for a meeting and it was not that busy so midweek should be fine for you.

Enjoy your golf game wherever you and your hubby play.If you happen to lose ground with the party in front, as you said previously and as proper etiquette dictates, just stand aside and let the group play through.

    Jerry.

    Jerry, thank you so much!

    A few additional items:

My wife is a beginner, and enjoyed Wolf Creek very much. Make sure you play the ladies tees, and your husband plays the whites (or even the yellows). If the starter matches you up with a twosome of guys playing the blues, it%26#39;s important that your husband doesn%26#39;t try to play at their tees. It will be a long, long day of golf. I agree with the others, enjoy your round, but make sure you keep moving and not hold up the group behind you.

Definitely play during the week if you can.

When we booked an April round for a Saturday, I had to call two months in advance, as there was a big show in Vegas. But in March you should be fine. Just call their 800 number and they%26#39;ll be helpful.

They do have last minute rates during the slow months, and they let you know about them by sending out an email if you%26#39;ve joined the list.

One last thing. Be aware Mesquite is on the Pacific/Mountain time zone border, so it gets dark early. Add in the fact that a round can take 5 hours, it%26#39;s important not to tee off too late!

    Construction in Aladdin?

    Hi All

Am off to Vegas for my second time (last in Sept and loved it so much i have been wanting to go back every day since!)

Have seen a good deal on the Aladdin for the first couple of weeks in June, does anyone know when the construction is likely to end and whats been done/ still to be done. It%26#39;s a really good deal and i%26#39;m thinking about booking it then waiting to get other deals in Caesars etc nearer the time, but i don%26#39;t want to end up there if it%26#39;s a nightmare.

    Any comments appreciated!

    Construction in Aladdin?

stopped there for the weekend 20th Jan. No problems at all with the construction inside the casino. The front of the place is having a face life but not a real problem at all.

Please don%26#39;t be put off my negative comments on the construction because it didn%26#39;t affect us at all.

    Construction in Aladdin?

It will be over in June. The good offers are to intro the new decor.

I was there is the peak of it last June, and there was no problem. Also stayed at Monte Carlo a couple nights, the one where there%26#39;s construction next door, and didn%26#39;t even know it once inside the hotel, and poolside.

But, many people on the board have a bug-eyed paranoia about construction, and will warn you without even knowing the actual extent of the impact...which was very little

Tweetiepie99;: We stayed at the Aladdin last March/early April at the height of the Trip Advisor Aladdin- bashing. There was no inconvenience as far as on site construction; barely noticed the temporary walls and the on site music had been turned up to mask any noise. Psyched about the new registration areas and casino facelift. Booked for 5 nights this April and not going to get all freaked out like I did last year. There is more noise at 4am coming from the Cosmopolitan than anything going on inside the Aladdin. I imagine the Cosmopolitan construction is probably more of an impact on Monte Carlo and Bellagio. It never bothered me with a strip view room during my stay in March. A lot of people in here love to bash and bad review the Aladdin, but for location, amenities, loose machines, and affordable dining it can%26#39;t be beat. ( Have stayed at Aladdin 5 times both during and before any renovations). The common areas are done and I%26#39;m ready. Never going to be April 16th lol. Good luck no matter what you decide.

where have you seen a good deal for the first week of june?

Go to fatwallet.com. They had a link listed for Aladdin special and in June they had rates of $49. It also had 2for1 buffet and 2for1 show at V. theatre. We%26#39;re doing that deal for March but this one was good in June.

i am checking out fatwallet-- pu in a search for aladdin but am totally confused please help-- what link do i go to

    thanks so so much

Just modified an existing reservation at Aladdin using the new Fatwallet promo code. Aladdin has come a long way since our first visit last May. I agree with one of the above posts, it was the height of complaining but we had a fantastic stay. Passed through again in November and the new casino remodel looks awesome. Current status is that the majority of the construction is on the exterior with some construction in the casino. Will post a report from our upcoming trip at the end of Feb. By June there are rumors that all of the construction will be done, however, it seems as though the estimated completion keeps getting pushed back.

    thanks for all the replies!

It was fawallet i got the link from - am going for 2 weeks in June and have booked it all at the aladdin just now - works out at £525/ $1046 which is great. Will keep my eyes out for other deals too - we got the Ceasars palace upgrade deal last year for $160 a night and it was amazing - huge room and a double bathroom - bliss! So i%26#39;ll probably chop and change before then

    thanks for all the info!

    Yes

Check location on the MGM map:

    mgmgrand.com/Data/media/MGM_Property_Map.pdf

    Monorail

Very much so--I just used it all weekend. This is the first trip that I have chosen to utilize it versus walking as much as usual. I stayed at MGM, and found it very convienent.

I like using it for myself and my wife. If there%26#39;s more people, you%26#39;d be better off, price wise, to get a cab. Check prices on the website I supplied.

Monorail is super convenient from MGM and also Signature towers. At MGM there are two completely different entrances to Monorail. One is from MGM area, the other is from ';Studio Walk'; - almost exactly where Signature hooks up with MGM.

I enjoyed using Monorail both for visiting mid-strip and also convention center --- no problems at all.

The main grip (deserved) about the Mono is that it%26#39;s a hassle to get to. That is true for a majority of hotels - but not MGM and definitely not the Signature @ MGM.

Hey daz the only bad thing about the monorail is that it is at the back of every casino, meaning u have to walk through the casino and restaurants etc to get to it...And walking from the front door of the MGM to the monorail can be a looong journey...

just a note though, we liked it and everything , just hated the walk to get to it..

    Thanks for the info guys.

    Need itinerary help

The wife and I, along with another couple, are heading out to Vegas for the first time this April. We%26#39;ll be there the first week of the month. To tell you the truth, after digging around the internet for suggestions of where to eat, things to do, where to stay, etc., I%26#39;m rather overwhelmed by the whole idea. Which is why I turn to you, for help.

We%26#39;re all 28-30 years old, don%26#39;t really like to gamble, like to drink and relax, the women like to shake their asses on the dance floor but the other guy and I really don%26#39;t. We%26#39;re all fans of rock music. We%26#39;d like to eat at nice places for dinner while stepping down a couple of notches for good deals when dealing with breakfasts and lunches. We%26#39;ve already reserved our rooms at NY,NY and are looking to budget between $1 and $1.2K for the trip per couple.

So, would you please recommend a possible itinerary for our trip? We could really use the help. Looking for dinner recommendations near the hotel, good bars/drink deals, sights to see (again, on the strip) being we don%26#39;t gamble, and good cheap eats for breakfasts and lunches. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Breakfast at La Salsa Cantina for $3.95 (across the rd from NY NY) near the M%26amp;M%26#39;s store;

    Dinner at Paris at the Cafe next to the Buffett(cant remember its name) great food %26amp; service %26amp; very reasonable price;

As for sights: Use the Duece Bus ($5 for 24 hr pass)

    Fremont St - light show; Bellagio Fountains; Paris %26amp; Eiffel Tower;

    Venetian (Gondola ride %26amp; the casino itself);

We have just come back - if the girls like to shop - send them to the Primm Factory Outlets for the day %26amp; you guys go %26amp; try to see as many casinos as you can (I dont gamble, but loved looking at them)

Good coffee at Seattles Best Coffee inside the Barbary Coast.

    Hope this helps :)

    Need itinerary help

I second the recommendation of La Salsa Cantina - it%26#39;s a chain with multiple locations on the Strip. One of the best deals in town, good food, good drinks, an inexpensive.

is there a la salsa cantina closer to the flamingo?

check my reivew we just got back and did not gamble much but ate a lot !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the closest Cantina to Flamingo is in Desert Passage. Filling enough breakfast at $3.95 but nothing to write home about. (I know - what do you expect for $4?)

Beer - our advice is to schedule some events, but leave yourself lots of time to just stroll around and take it all in.

There are good bars/clubs right in your hotel or across the street at MGM.

    Some other suggestions:

    - Carnaval Court at Harrah%26#39;s

    - House of Blues at Mandalay Bay

    - Shadow Bar at CP

    - Margaritaville rooftop patio

Heard good things about the brewpub in Monte Carlo but haven%26#39;t made it there yet. It%26#39;s on my list for our April visit.

To the best of my knowledge, there are 5 La Salsa Cantinas on the Strip, as follows:

Luxor, Showcase Mall, Desert Passage, Forum Shops, and Riviera. The closest to Flamingo would be the one in the Forum Shops at Caesar%26#39;s palace.

Since you are staying in NY NY make sure to get a meal in America. Love the big map overhead. Food is good as well.

Make sure you check out the Venetian. Lots to do there - gondola rides, shopping centre, Guggenheim, Madame Tussauds.

Vegas is totally overwhelming with so much to do, that is why we all have to keep going back. Enjoy

    Thank you for the help.

Do a search on the Peppermill. The restaurant is said to have huge portions...it%26#39;s a retro restaurant...the atmosphere seems to be an attraction all by itself, not to mention good plentiful food...everyone that eats there...writes about a memorable experience. I can%26#39;t wait to try it myself.

I recommend going to Mix at THEhotel at Mandaly Bay for a nice dinner, good food, cool restaurant, and an amazing view. Do the Paris buffet at least once and if you want something closer the Bayside Buffet at Mandalay Bay is really pretty and not as crowded as most. If you like Vodka I recommend going to Red Square at Mandalay Bay and even if you don%26#39;t it%26#39;s a really cool bar to visit. A couple of good restaurants to try would be Emerils at MGM, Delmonico at Venetian, Olives at Bellagio, and Mon Ami Gabi at Paris. A fun Martini Bar with some dancing is the 13 Martinis at Hooters. A couple of bars I really like (besides Red Square) are Caramel at Bellagio (the women would probably love the Oreo Shake Martini there, it%26#39;s awesome!) Centrifuge at MGM, Shadowbar at Caesars, and Parasol Up/Down at Wynn. Definately set aside time to check out the Forum Shops Mall for gawking and the Desert Passage Mall for more realistic shopping.

Planning to stay In Vegas May 18 - 23.Myself and wife aged 51 and 47 Trying to be economical. Hoping for three to four star hotel. Any suggestions. Will there be any offers on at that time.Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

    Harry

    Vegas In May

The hotel usually sends offers to people that have previously gambled there. Is this your first trip?

Also, when there are deals, people here usually post them.

    Stay tuned.

    Vegas In May

For travel in May, you will probably start to see deals popping up in March.

Without being rude if you%26#39;re trying to be economical then avoid Vegas at the weekend. A room that%26#39;s say $99 on Sunday-Thursday can easily be $249 on Friday and Saturday, more if it%26#39;s an especially busy weekend.

Also there%26#39;s a large convention beginning during your stay which pushes rates up. At the moment that looks like an expensive few days to visit. It also reduces the chances of there being good promotional rates nearer the time.

I%26#39;m presuming that you%26#39;re wanting to stay on the Strip rather than off-Strip or Downtown. The hotels that I%26#39;d recommend you look at are Flamingo, Barbary Coast, Monte Carlo, TI and Luxor. Without knowing your budget it%26#39;s hard to be more specific.

    Hi Harry,

May seems to be a mixed month on the price front.

Is it your first trip to LV?

Suggest you deal with hotels directly(often TA advise) and keep checking to see if price comes down,if so call hotel and rebook at new figs.At least if you do it now you have a room!

In regards to which hotel...where do you fancy?Strip, downtown etc etc.If not decided do you homework on here and check out the reviews of hotels your considering.

Hubby and i have done downtown and strip(extremes too)...ie CC and Excal, then Mirage and TI.Friends have stayed IP and thought value for money and centre strip location good...but remember it%26#39;s horses for courses??

Have a fab one!We go again early May...yippee!!

Try getting on email lists for deals that might come up:

    http://www.harrahs.com/

    http://www.mgmmiragevacations.com/

I first had checked Barbary Coast to get you into the middle of the strip at a good price and it was sold out. So I checked the convention calendar:

    http://www.vegasrooms.com/conventions5.htm

Probably a lot of the 45,000 are staying there.

Try the hotels Blagger suggested for now. Good idea to go to Vegas.com and get a list of all casinos, save them to your favorites list, then just start searching.

Are you renting a car, maybe planning on seeing the Grand Canyon, or Red Rock? If so we can suggest hotels off the strip.

    Belliagio advice

I have reservations for the Belliagio. The dates that I am going I can upgrade my room to a view of the fountains for an extra $50 a night, or a Salone suite for an extra $100 a night. I am debating on if it is worth it since we probably won%26#39;t spend a lot of time in our room. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Also, I am going with a group of 10 and we are considering Gallagher%26#39;s at NYNY for dinner followed by the dueling piano%26#39;s. How expensive is Gallagher%26#39;s and is it worth it?

Maybe I caught them on a bad night but I thought that Gallagher%26#39;s was not very good and overpriced. You can do much better for less at Circus Circus SH. Just ask the lone expert, VHB, I%26#39;m sure he will agree since he has said it on this forum at least a thousand times.

    Belliagio advice

A better option would be dinner at the Range then taking in the dueling pianos at Harrah%26#39;s.

I really liked having the view of the fountains, as you can listen to the music from the tv and watch the fountains out the window. The Salone Suite is awesome! There is a big bathtub with a window over it. We only had a partial view of the fountains in our Salone Suite. The best choice is the Bellagio Suite which has a view of the fountains and is huge-2 full bathrooms and 1 1/2 bath. There is a big whirlpool bathtub and steam room in the other shower. It is just lovely. However, if you are not going to have the time to take advantage of these amenities, just save your money and enjoy your normal room!

Try the bellagio Gourmet Buffet- you won%26#39;t be disappointed.

';I am debating on if it is worth it since we probably won%26#39;t spend a lot of time in our room';...you said it right there...I personally would save my $100 for the casino floor or towards a nice meal per night. I have stayed in a corner salone suite (with no view of the lake), and although it was nice to have two walls of windows, and a larger bath, I personally would not pay $100 MORE for that. If you are visiting Bellagio for the first time, it might be nice to stay in a lakeview for $50/night.

We also do not spend any time in our room, so paying for it would be a waste. However, we always ask for a free upgrade and sometimes we get it and sometimes we don%26#39;t. We actually got upgraded to a salone suite from a deluxe (no view) room when we used the infamous and ';controversial'; $20 trick/bribe! We also got two other lakeview rooms (separate stays) with a polite request and smile. It all depends on how busy the hotel is.

I loved our lakeview room at Bellagio! We liked the view so well, one night we dined by candlelight right by the window in our room, it was awesome. i%26#39;d do it if you%26#39;ve not done it before. You might find you will be spending more time in the room than you might think. ;)

Gabbygambler, that sounds like a terrific idea to me! Could you please share your experience about their room service menu especially on desserts and drinks? We鈥檒l be staying at Bellagio only one night so it would be great to just relax in our room and enjoy dinner with fountain view in such privacy.

    Thanks a lot in advance!

The room service menu at Bellagio was basically the same as that of Cafe Bellagio, their 24 hour cafe, prices were the same as well. There is a good selection of items in every category on that menu. As far as drinks go, you can order anything you want that%26#39;s on the beverage menu and the same for desserts. When you order from room service, they always say it will be there within 45 minutes, it%26#39;s always much less than that. The 45 min is the longest it will be.

We moved a chair out of the way so that when they brought the food, it could all be set up in front of the window. They bring your order on a rolling cart, once inside the room and when it%26#39;s placed where you want it to be, they open it up making a round table, white linen table cloth on top with a small vase of flowers. All foods are on plates with those domed covers to keep the items under them either warm or cold. Not sure I%26#39;d order ice cream though!

I used to think that all I needed was just a nice clean room and then I went to Bellagio with a Lakeview room and I%26#39;ve become a believer. A nice view really makes your stay all the more special, waking up looking at the Eiffel tower and the Paris Balloon was amazing, we never closed our curtains. Once I had a suite at THEhotel all other rooms seem small and cramped. If you can afford to upgrade your room I%26#39;d say do it, how often do you get to stay at Bellagio?

I just called Bellagio to upgrade my room. All they have left is the partial lakeview so I took it. I wish I would have called sooner!

    Wine

Where is the closest store that I may purchase a bottle of wine if I am staying at the MGM? Thanks!

    Wine

I am not sure if it is the closest, but there is an ABC store in Desert Passage that sells wine.

    Wine

There is a really nice, and expensive, wine store in Mandalay Place (in between Luxor %26amp; MB).

Just go over by the West wing, there is a boutique in the hotel that you will see, but skip that and walk out the doors and you will walk right into a convenience store with beer and wine, Subway and a souvenirs, wine is reasonably priced there with a decent selection.

    Luxor Hotel - Which Floor?

We are planning to marry in Las Vegas in 2008 and wish to stay at the Luxor in a Pyramid Spa Suite, which floor do you recommend to be the best?

    Luxor Hotel - Which Floor?

i would say the higher the floor the better view you will probably get. i stayed in a standard pyramid room on the 13th floor and still had a nice view.

    Luxor Hotel - Which Floor?

My recollection is that the Spa Suites are in the corners of the pyramid. Higher floors = better views = less noise from the casino and entertainment levels. I think you will be pleased with the room.

Stratton is correct, the Spa Suites are in the corners of the pyramid. For the best view you would want to be as high as possible in the north east corner of the pyramid looking up the Strip.

Remember though that rooms and suites are allocated at check in. Request what you%26#39;d like but remember it can%26#39;t be 100% guaranteed.

Thank you for your help, take care all.

    Las Vegas in April

    Hello......

Going to Vegas in April for a week with a few of the lads for one of their birthdays...........

Was wondering if anyone can recommend what shows/activities will be worth doing/watching.......

Heard the Hoover Dam is worth seeing and maybe the Legends Show.......

Have also heard about Olympic Gardens..........?!!!??

    Las Vegas in April

Roger, it%26#39;s impossible to give you good answers to your questions as they%26#39;re a bit too vague. A bit more information please like your ages, tastes etc.

The range of shows to see and things to do in and around Vegas is huge. Try using the forum search. Type in a key word that you%26#39;re interested in to be able to read countless old posts on that topic.

    Las Vegas in April

    Apologies Blagger,

I suppose a bit more info would of helped.....

Cheers for the advice bout the search.

6 Lads approaching the 30s, like a bit of Gambling, a bit of drinking etc etc.....

So could turn out to be messy!!!!

Like the sound of the $1 Michelobs in the Casino Royale though!!!

    Will get searching........

Hoover Dam is very much worth seeing. Not the sort of thing I%26#39;d normally associate with a guys%26#39; trip, but if you%26#39;re going to be there for a week and you feel like getting out of the city for part of a day, I recommend it.

Absolutely recommend Casino Royale for your group. Free drinks when gambling, or $1.00 Michelob%26#39;s to top up or when you aren%26#39;t.

Also Margaritaville rooftop patio at Flamingo, Brew Pub at Monte Carlo, and any number of nightclubs...

  • Bellagio standard vs. Caesars Palace Tower

If prices are comparable, and this was your first trip to Vegas, which would you take, a standard room at Bellagio or a Caesar%26#39;s Deluxe Palace Tower Room. The Caesar%26#39;s rooms look more updated, but the Bellagio resort looks a bit nicer. Room size looks like it%26#39;s comparable. Thoughts from anyone who%26#39;s stayed in both?

Bellagio standard vs. Caesars Palace Tower

Bellagio is a nicer facility than Caesar%26#39;s, but both are excellent. I%26#39;d say the rooms would be comparable. However, Palace Tower rooms are older. I%26#39;d choose Caesar%26#39;s if the price was the same and IF you are able to get one of the refurbished rooms in the Palace Tower, otherwise I%26#39;d choose Bellagio. Wait, I take that back, I%26#39;d choose Bellagio unless I could have an Augustus Tower room for the same price!

Bellagio standard vs. Caesars Palace Tower

All of the Palace Tower rooms have been renovated and look like the Augustus Tower rooms (except they don%26#39;t have tvs in the bathroom)

Palace Tower rooms have nice big Whirlpool tubs, but regular bellagio rooms do not.

Of course if you have a lakeview room at the Bellagio, that would be ideal for a first time visitor.

Palace Tower rooms are a little bigger than the standard Bellagio room.

I%26#39;d actually go for the Palace Tower.

Yeah if the Bellagio room was Lakeview that would be a no-brainer but otherwise I think I%26#39;d go with the Palace Tower. If you choose Bellagio try to get upgraded to Lakeview. If you choose caesars try to get upgraded to Augustus Tower with a fountain view.....it%26#39;s all about the fountains!

If it is a Premium Palace Tower Room then they are very nice.

Whirlpool for 2, actually has 2 bathrooms with interconnecting largeshower with his %26amp; hers shower heads. Wall mounted T.V. and in her bathroom a bidet. We were there last week and will be there again in May. Had a nice view of the pool area.

regarding the Palace Tower at CP, be warned that if you have a room on the NORTH side of the tower, the view is pretty crummy. You primarily see the top of CP%26#39;s parking deck and the interstate.

You do face directly towards the Mirage, and can see the Wynn as well. But it%26#39;s not the dynamite view you get from the south-facing rooms.

I know this doesn%26#39;t help your decision, as you don%26#39;t get to pick the room location when booking. But if you decide on Caesars, when you check in, beg, plead, bribe, etc. to make sure you get a south-facing room.

Well, y%26#39;all haven%26#39;t made my decision any easier, but I very much appreciate the info. We have a couple months until we go, so we%26#39;ll see what happens with prices between now and then. From what I can tell from my research and what y%26#39;all are saying, I%26#39;d prefer an Augustus tower room or a Bellagio fountain view room. I might just pick the cheapest rate I can get at either of the hotels and then try for an upgrade when I get there. We%26#39;re going midweek so hopefully there will be some availability for a free or reduced price upgrade.

    Best Place to Play BlackJack

    1) Where are the best ';on-strip'; hotels with good returns?

    2) How about downtown?

    3) Does one deck or two deck still exist?

    thanks

    Best Place to Play BlackJack

I found single deck games at Four Queens that pay 3:2 on blackjack. Stay away from the single deck games that pay 6:5 (and there are A LOT of them all over town...it%26#39;s a bad trade you%26#39;re better off playing a shoe game). If you%26#39;re looking for a cheap table on the strip on a weekend, try the New frontier, Strat or Sahara. I%26#39;ve never been to casino Royale, but the stories are legendary.

    Best Place to Play BlackJack

    Food for thought.

The more expensive the joint, the more they have to make off of you on each hand.

It is a lot cheaper Downtown or at the older places on the Strip, mentioned above, since the overhead is less with no volcano nor fountains to maintain.

True economy may be found at the low roller joints like the Western but that has other issues, like making it out the door with your winnings.

Dr.Vegas or 21 player will know where to go.

Plenty of single deck games just about everywhere but virtually everywhere on the Strip pays 6:5 so avoid. If you want a single deck 3:2 game then you%26#39;ll have to look off-Strip or Downtown.

Also beware of automatic shuffling machines. It%26#39;s getting harder and harder to find a multi-deck on the Strip that doesn%26#39;t use one.

there is plenty of good BJ on the strip in nice casinos. the true experts are at www.bj21.com

you can join for 1 month and get the newsletter which will list the current state of the games, including limits, house edge, # of tables, rules, etc.

downtown does not have the best games and has quite a few bad games.

in all casinos they have many games and you can NOT tell by looking at the table - you have to ASK . 2 tables right next to each other with same limits and hitting/standing on soft 17 will be different if one offers DAS and LS and the other does not.

pay the subscription fee for a month (or year if you visit often) and get the most accurate info. worth a few bucks to know where to play.

ashura... I can only speak for Downtown, because it is in my budget and Downtown dollar for dollar is the better value over the Strip for a hardcore gambler like myself! LOL

The best single deck game Downtown is at the Four Queens. It pays 3:2 for a blackjack and has a $5 minimum. There is only table of it, and there%26#39;s usually a seat available.

All of the other single deckers that I know of only pay 6:5; AVOID these ripoff games.

Double deck games are plentiful, and most pay 3:2. Best games are at the Plaza and Vegas Club, but they are dealt face up. Four Queens has them dealt face down, but be careful: some tables allow doubling after splitting and some don%26#39;t . You will have to ask if you can%26#39;t tell from reading the placards on the table.

Cheapest places minimum bet-wise are Four Queens (one $2 shoe game table, usually full), Golden Gate (several $3 tables), Western and El Cortex ( couple of $2 tables, but lesser ';environments';).

    Enjoy your trip! %26lt;grin%26gt;

Single deck on the strip pays 6/5 which s u c k s. Bally%26#39;s has a double deck game sometimes but it%26#39;s a $25 minimum and tight rules... I think Casino Royale pitches a double deck along with O%26#39; Shea%26#39;s maybe? I am also guessing some of the north Strip has better BJ (Sahara, Riv) but not sure as I havent ventured up that way in awhile.

I have no problem with a 6 deck game though (out of a shoe, no shuffle master) but where you need to watch out is the Flamingo. They pitch an 8 deck game out of a shoe. That s u c k s too...

Really though, downtown is the place for good double deck action. The Cal, MSS, LV club etc...

Thanks all for the input. I%26#39;m heading out to ';Lost Wages'; April 6-9 (will file a TR) and want to try some Blackjack for once, I typically play video poker...

    Blagger,

unless you are counting cards, an automatic shuffler gives a slightly better edge to the player. But 6-5 does suck big time.

What does 3:2 and 6:5 Mean?

    3:2 and 6:5 are payouts for a blackjack. In a 3:2 game a $10 bet will pay $15 for blackjack but in a 6:5 game you%26#39;d only get $12.

Obviously if you%26#39;re paying for big stakes the differential becomes a lot more important but whatever you%26#39;re betting, 6:5 is a rip-off.

Itinerary..................what do you think Jan 24'th

Hey all - below is my itinerary for vegas and just wondered what you all thought.........bear in mind that I love driving and could quite happily drive all day :)

Wed - arrive mid afternoon, drive to South Point. We will be SO jetlagged so maybe a walk around my fave part of strip - south.

Thur - Hoover Damn and Grand Canyon. We will no doubt be awake as usual by 5.........hope to be at Hoover Damn by 6%26#39;ish. We will probably be really tired by end of day and not go out this night.

Fri - Zion National Park and on route Valley of Fire and Nascar circuit. Another long day so stay around SP when we get back.

Sat - 5am, Drive to Santa Monica, walk on beach..........possibly see Venice again (loved it last time)............then drive to Malibu and finally north to hook up on 101. Take 101/110 to see the Colliseum and then north on Figuero to Staples Center for 7.30 pm Clippers Game. Finally maybe a bar or few around Hollywood after I check into hotel.

Sunday - Spend the morning looking around Hollywood, last time I drove through it so I will walk and look at all the sights. 12.30 Lakers game. 3.45 - sneaky me will leave game with few minutes to go and drive back to Las Vegas. 10pm - Mandalay Bay/House of Blues for Prince Tribute Band. Also sunday - my wife/bud have movied to the Luxor.

Mon - Shooting range in morning and then back to strip. Rest of day strip based.

Tue - Horseback riding in Red Rock Canyon early and then rest of day on strip.

Wed - Completely clear.........go on...........beat the record of 80 degrees for this day, pleeeease make it a pool day :)

Thur - Clear until 1pm%26#39;ish when we leave for airport.

So - we have used South Point as a base for travelling and then once we get to Luxor we will stay more local and be back each day by lunch - most of 3 days (mon-wed) will be on strip and also part of thursday, we are not gamblers so I think this will be enough, what do you think?!

Itinerary..................what do you think Jan 24'th

Nick -are you having us on? Thought I was organised, but this, its way out of my league. I love driving also but not like this, its madness. I have questions, (maybe I%26#39;m just nosey) :-

Mandalay etc - is it classed as north or south strip.

Zion park - near to G.C.?

    what is valley of fire.

How long will it take you to drive from GC to Santa Monica.

SM thru malibu to colliseum - how long a drive.

3.45 to 10pm hollywood to vegas - is this possible.

    Red rock canyon ??

sorry to be so nosey, but you%26#39;ve really impressed me and the missus.

Itinerary..................what do you think Jan 24'th

Now you asked what do we think, so here goes and if you get defensive then you didn%26#39;t really want to know what we think. So here are my thoughts.......

Nick, it is Hoover Dam...not damn. If you are able to pull all that off and say you%26#39;ve had a good time, then kudos to you. I like to see at least one off strip sight during my Vegas vacation and have fun. IYour itinerary sounds like more of a job than having fun to me, getting to all those places in such little time. Would I want to be in a whirlwind all the time? No, but it is not me.......I am so glad I am not traveling with you. Good luck.

sounds good any more info on the shoting range part

do a background check on the horseback riding, most people have encountered a disaster. read some reports.

Vegasdan - great reply, insightful as usual.

Teach - sorry, my bad, lol. Dam :)

    Floridas,

    Mandalay - south

Zion - nope, its north on i15

GC to Santa Monica........not driving to Santa Monica from there, driving from Vegas..............I hope to do it in 4 1/2 hours.

mtroh - i found the company off someone on here who recommended them - cowboytrailrides.com.

FYI..Make sure you take the time to hike at Zion. It has been many years since I was there but it is really a place where you get out of the car and spend a few hours hiking around.

What? No stop at the Western or Gold Spike? What%26#39;s the matter, not current on your tetanus? No desire to be the corpse on the next episode of CSI? I think I know which TA poster you%26#39;ll be thinking of at the shooting range. Cheers!

Nick, I have to agree with Sue on it being a lot to do in a short time.

One thing to point out is the drive to and from the Grand Canyon. I%26#39;ve done it several times and between the stop at the Dam and then the round trip drive, it won%26#39;t allow you much time for the Canyon itself.

    Otherwise it sounds fun.

I%26#39;ll suggest you go Downtown to Fremont one night just to do it.

    Doc

    Dr Vegas,

We will be goin to Freemont for sure - I forgot to put in itinerary a couple of things I am lookin forward to in the evenings, one being Freemont and the other the Piano Bar at NYNY.

    Strip,

LOL :) Cheers buddy, cannot wait to get there man! Only been once before and it was part of a bigger vacation (NY/Hawaii) so time was limited to 3 days........will be nice to have longer in the city and see alot more!

    Boston,

We will at least get outta car to have a look around and will hike depending on time, thanks.

Palace Staion or Las Vegas Hilton??

If you could only choose from one of these.. which one would it be? I found what I think are great prices for both. Being %26#39;on%26#39; the strip isn%26#39;t that important, just being able to %26#39;get to%26#39; the strip.. More or less just looking for a clean place to sleep for a few hours.

Palace Staion or Las Vegas Hilton??

Palace Station is not even in the same universe as the LV Hilton. Beam me up to the Hilton ballmom!!!

Palace Staion or Las Vegas Hilton??

The Hilton is nice because it is on the monorail which gets you easily to strip hotels, goes all the way down to the MGM Grand and several hotels in between. I think the Palace Station has a shuttle which would be free. I have stayed at the Hilton 3 times and like it, the casino is nice, food choices are just ok. I haven%26#39;t stayed at PS however.

If you are truly forced to choose between only those two, I%26#39;d go with the Hilton.

I have never stayed at Palace Station, but I did stay at the Hilton and it is gorgeous. As it isn%26#39;t on the strip it can be annoying when you want to be on the strip, however a quick taxi or monorail ride gets you there in no time. The rooms are quite nice and they have a great buffet (well, breakfast buffet anyway, as that is the only one I had)

    Hilton by far.

Great !! Thank you so much.

Now, one more question. I found the rate on a travel site. Should I try calling the Hilton? Would they match it or give me a better deal?

Call them directly first and see what they have. If it%26#39;s more, then mention the travel site price and see if they%26#39;ll match. It%26#39;s always better to book direct with the hotel if you can as it allows you more flexibility with cancellations as well as potential upgrades to your room (strip view, suite, hi-floor etc.) upon arrival.

If you book it throught Orbitz for example, you are stuck with whatever block of rooms the Hilton has set aside for that particular rate, offer and travel site.

    Hope that helps.

  • Most overrated attraction or casino in Las Vegas...

    Greetings all,

Just curious as to what you think is the most overrated attraction or casino in Las Vegas?

    Mac Maroon

Most overrated attraction or casino in Las Vegas...

Hey Mac Maroon!!! Don%26#39;t see to many fellow winnipegers around here! :)

Most overrated attraction or casino in Las Vegas...

Easiest question I%26#39;ve had the pleasure to respond to.

MGM on both points. The Lion habitat is one of the sadest things I%26#39;ve witnessed. And the casino? Too big, bad games, stupid table limits. Worst drink service in Vegas. (slooow)

I will say the poker ';room'; and sports book are ok though.

I%26#39;m going to count food as attractions and say that the 99 cent shrimp cocktail at the Golden Gate is the most overhyped attraction in Vegas. The shrimp are so small you can barely see them and they are drowing in a pool of cocktail sauce. Yuck.

Yes, I understand it is only 99 cents and you get what you pay for but people talk about this special like it%26#39;s the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I agree with the Doc about MGM (except for the lions). It is way too big and I never found anything in that hotel that would make me want to go back. I don%26#39;t find it an attractive casino. If you include shows- BMG made me want to commit suicide then and there.

I have to add the stupid M %26amp; M store. Why does the world need one of these? Why do people want to overpay to pick their M %26amp; M colors? Most importantly, do people need to buy Christmas ornaments with M %26amp; M%26#39;s on them? It boggled my mind - honestly.

Easy.....the Volcano at Mirage. Waste of time.

The Rain Storm in Desert Passage. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Anything that copies the real thing - Gondola rides, Eiffle Tower, Luxor and NYNY.

    Come on damama.

I was thinking a Mount Vernon Hotel/ Casino would be cool.

BTW if you google me, all you%26#39;ll find is info for an ex-Senator.

  • Planet Aladdin/Hollywood deal question

FatWallet has a promo deal posted today for Aladdin, but as I%26#39;ve seen before, the caveat listed in the fine print was:

    ';This offer is non-transferable and is therefore valid only for the Club Aladdin Member listed on this account';

I%26#39;ve read in past TA postings about folks who have made reservations using these codes with mixed results. How likely is there to be an issue on check-in? My reservation went through and I got a confirmation number without any reference to my Club Aladdin card.

Anyone with experience that can share their opinions?

    Planet Aladdin/Hollywood deal question

When I stayed there in November I booked under one of those specials without being a member, and I had no problems at check-in. Just make sure you get a player%26#39;s club card before you check-in in the casino. Just act like you%26#39;ve been there before.

    Planet Aladdin/Hollywood deal question

I just saw that promo as well. I%26#39;m already booked for February under a previous players club only code I recieved via snail mail, but this offer is cheaper. I%26#39;m going to call tonight and ask them to adjust my rate based on the new promo code. I%26#39;ll let you know if I have any problems. Saves $40 over al already smoking rate!

Also, I should note that my original booking offer was a phone offer only and they required my players club to book.

Thanks. Look forward to hearing from you.

I%26#39;m going Apr 10-14. We used a different deal at The Flamingo to get our stay down to $320 plus tax.

This new Aladdin offer is for $276 plus tax, so obviously I%26#39;m interested in it.

lone_palm, I called and they adjusted my existing reservation with no problem. DH had a reservation as well (we made for friends withoout a card) and was able to change it with no problems. I think as long as you book online and get a card upon arrival you should be fine! They didn%26#39;t do anything to confirm that the offer was actually sent to us.

Will post a report when I return at the end of Feb. :)

the fine print on the deal says its for the member who it was sent to but I%26#39;ve never been asked for one there. They also have a very public webpage showing the general rates on the calendar. I agree that I would get a card before check in just in case they ask. But seeing as they don%26#39;t ask for your card number on the reservation it should be no problem. Here%26#39;s the link to the page if anyone is interested....

Good news, sounds like you are all set. Enjoy your trip. I%26#39;ll keep a look out for you when you get back to see how everything was (and keep my reservation at Flamingo active for the time being just in case....)

No problem! Yes, it%26#39;s always good to have a backup, just in case! Hopefully I%26#39;ll have good things to report when I return. My only hope is that they fix the whole casino entrance thing by then. :) If not, well, then I guess that means the Aladdin casino will be very uncrowded.

Thanks eagle1584 for the link. I did book with the Aladdin/Planet Hollywood for a great rate. I went last year in June with a rate of $49 per night and I had no problems; however they hadn%26#39;t started putting in the fine print at that time. I do have a players card though. I just hope it%26#39;s not based on your play. I%26#39;m going to call again before I leave to verify my rate and maybe ask a few questions, very few. I had been waiting for a great rate and now I can officially say I am booked for May.

laurasue13, looking forward to your post and review of using the rate and on the casino. etc.

    Craps

I am looking for a casino near the mirage for a beginner to learn how to play craps. Also is there a casino near the mirage that offers crap lessons?

    Craps

    I googled ';casinos that offer craps lessons in vegas';

    Here are a few:

    The Venetian

    Barbary Coast

    Monte Carlo

    Gold Coast

    Sunset Station

    Craps

Most of the casinos offer craps lessons. Check with Mirage to see if they do. If not, try TI (there is a tram that connects Mirage and TI, so you don%26#39;t have to walk).

It is better to learn to play craps from a book or from a website. The lessons given by the casino will probably not tell you which the ';sucker bets'; are, those with obscenely high house edges.

Someone recently posted the following website here.

    http://www.nextshooter.com/

you might want to check it out.

I agree with Mike. I played craps for the first time on my last trip to Vegas. I had learned and played online for a little bit and then attended a craps ';lesson'; at Gold Coast. I found there was nothing offered in the lesson that I hadn%26#39;t already learned online and I was better prepared than most of the others who were there.

Craps is a great game and has some of the best odds in the casino - if you understand which types of bets are good and which are sucker bets. It%26#39;s also a very social game. I encourage you to give it a try.

Go to the lessons at the Barbary Coast, I think they are at 10 or 11am. At the end of the lesson you get $5 free play.

Not to hijack the thread but...

Have you ever been in your hotel room and accidentally changed the TV to the how-to-play-the-different-casino-games channel and then realizing that 20 minutes has passed?

    Shona :-)

    No problem.

One more thing, I found 2 references to the Barbary Coast.

    One said 7 days a week @ 10:30 am, the other said Mon-Wed-Fri @ 10:30 am.

After you know the basics you might enjoy playing the $3 craps tables at Casino Royale -- I love to play with my husband but I am not willing to play for $5 - somehow $3 lasts a lot longer for me.

Also he will take me to the Westin (down Flamingo Rd catty-cornered from the Sports Book entrance to Bally%26#39;s) - during the week the Westin has $1 craps 5--10p - there is only 1 table so you usually have to show up early to get to play as it does get crowded.

While down that way you might as well go to Ellis Island for their steak special (do a search here if you are not familiar with that - tons of discussion on it!)

Craps is really fun as long as you are not playing those sucker bets - my husband loves it and really does well....usually.... He really enjoys playing at TI and Luxor as the dealers are really friendly there and there are usually a lot of fun folks playing.

Have fun and be sure to report back!!

    wheelchair or scooter rental

Cripes, wouldn%26#39;t you know it. Husband and I will be in Vegas Feb 18 - 22 ,staying at Strat, and renting a car. Hus has injured his ankle and can hardly walk -GREAT. We have been to Vegas often, and always do a lot of walking. I love to shop, and always hit the outlet malls, etc.

So - anyone know where to rent a wheelchair or scooter or something???? I can%26#39;t believe this!!!! Can these be loaded into car?

    wheelchair or scooter rental

I tyook my mom in September, She is handicapped. Stopped at the front desk and rented her a scooter from Desert Medical. $30.00 a day and they delivered it to her at the Hotel in less than 30-minutes. She lvoed it and really enjoyed it. Any hotel should help you get one of these. Most Hotels will gie you a wheel chair to use in their casino only, but I recommend renting a scooter.

    I will sum it up:

    http://www.activemobilitylv.com/index.html

This is the best company! Depending on your husband%26#39;s weight will tell if you can load it into a car.

For people over 200lbs...they have larger scooters...and they also rent ramps to use to get it into a rental van.

They also will have other scooters reserved for you at various casinos if you want to taxi there, and use another one of their scooters. We rented for a week, and ';borrowed'; another one at The Plaza, and Sam%26#39;s Town. Very accommodating, 10% discount for mentioning their website, and 24 hr assistance.

They made our trip a success!

Reserved and paid for scooter in advance. It was beautiful. Full, high back. It was at the bell desk when we checked in. I can%26#39;t say enough good things about them!

We had a minor problem, and they told me how to fix it over the phone within 2 minutes. (My mother kept turning the alarm on-we didn%26#39;t know she was doing it...so we didn%26#39;t know what that noise was! We laugh about that now).......and she only knocked down 3 displays in various stores with her lack of depth perception !!!!!!

......and the smaller scooters can easily be taken apart to transfer into a car....but the nice people at the valet parking sites always just picked up the extra large scooter and lifted it in and out of our rental van when asked. We tipped them well .

I don%26#39;t know about anyone else, but scooters are becoming almost as much as a nuisance as baby carriages! Last time there, I had to dodge everyone driving a scooter who thinks they automatically have the right of way!

I can understand not being able to get around on your own, but please be a considerate scooter user.

    Jewellery Shoping

My wife and I are visiting Vegas in April we are also going to San Francisco.I am going to buy her some jewellery but am unsure were to buy it. Wether it will be cheeper it vagas if so were is best to buy it

    Jewellery Shoping

I seriously doubt you will find jewelry bargains in Vegas or in the US for that matter, at least not if shopping in the quality shops. If you know what you want to buy, I%26#39;d check online for pricing in both the UK and the US to see what if any price differences there are.

    Jewellery Shoping

If you have a friend that can get you into the Jewelry Mart in San Francisco, I would say go there.

I have been looking for engagment rings. And they are about 1/4 to 1/3 off. even to chicago jewelers row. And much easer to deal with.

jewelry mart in San Francisco info:

    http://www.gcjm.com/info.html

There may be ';bargians'; at the Las Vegas Pawn shops.

i think it just depends...what are you looking for? what do you want to spend? you can get yurman, roberto coin to mention a few....just depends. or you can go the cheaper route and get brighton. who doesnt love brighton?

there are plenty of places to buy any kind of jewelry in vegas......

    thanks all

There are some Jewellery shops in the outlet malls.

I still think they are still overpriced and the quality is not all that (as compared to Dubai, South Africa, Malaysia).

Shadow Creek or any other suggestions

My boyfriend and I are staying at Bellagio in September. He is a very keen golfer and plays off a handicap of 5 and enjoys playing good courses.

I%26#39;m planning to treat him to a round of golf whilst we are there and have read a few reviews on Shadow Creek. Can anyone please help me with the following:

I believe having read TA that a private limousine, use of the driving range, cart, clubs, snacks and drinks are included. Is this still correct?

As I%26#39;m not a golfer he will be going on his own, so will the Caddie go around the 18 holes with him or are they likely to pair him with other people as I don%26#39;t know after paying $500 he would appreciate going around on his own.

Finally, are there any other golf courses that could be a possibility.

Shadow Creek or any other suggestions

Kevling, I have played Shadow Creek several times and will be playing again next week. Your info is correct. One must use the hotel limo. Cart, range etc. is of course included. Caddie likewise but a tip to the limo driver(s) and caddie is a must. He may play by himself or ask to be paired. They may not be able to accomodate his day or time if he wants to be paired. He may walk or ride on the cart. Carts are almost always used however, so expect to ride. If he plays by himself, the round will be short as pace of play is fantastic due to the exclusiveivity. If he is paying and gets no casino host help, round is $500. Check to see if your September date is open as they close for overseeding about then.....

Shadow Creek or any other suggestions

    also check out cascata

    http://www.harrahs.com/golf/cascata-golf/

    Hello Underpar,

Many thanks for your quick response. When booking Shadow Creek did you have to leave your credit card details as i can%26#39;t find a secure site on Bellagio web site to give this details or do they just take name and preferred date?

One other query is about the golf clubs that you play with - do they have a wide range of choice as my boyfriends pride and joy are his Mizuno%26#39;s but as we are coming from the UK we will not be bringing them with us?

    Thanks again.

Kevling, call direct to Shadow 1 866 260-0069 in the US. You need to know when they close for overseeding. Also, if you do not have a host you will need to go through the hotel. If you have reservations at Bellagio already call and talk to the concierge. You CAN NOT get a tee time unless you go through a MGM-MIrage property. The concierge will verify your reservation and schedule. If Shadow is closed Cascata is a very comparable alternative. Totally different type of course but an equal, if not even better, class of luxury. Also ask about rental clubs. There is no way they will be Mizuno%26#39;s as they are generally seen as ';players clubs'; for people more like, well, your boyfriend! Not the average high roller hacker.

  • Using someone else's Promo Code?

Okay, I am new the whole Vegas thing so bare (or is it bear?) with me!

Over the weekend another poster very nicely shared a direct link to promotional rates at the Flamingo with me and I went ahead and booked one night there at a rate of $60. There is nothing on the promo page that states that you must be a member, etc so I didn%26#39;t think there would be an issue.

Now I was just doing a search on another topic and came across some information stating that if you use a promo code that isn%26#39;t yours and you are not a players club member you will be charged the full room rate at check in. (this information was not related to the Flamingo)

So, now I am worried that when I check in they will see that I am not a member of their players club (which I will gladly join when I hit the casino) and they will want to charge me the full price for that night-which is currently $237.

    Am I worrying over nothing?

    Using someone else's Promo Code?

I just got home from a mini vacation to Vegas. I stayed at the Flamingo and I also got the promotion link from a poster on this site. I booked 1 night for $90 and other night for $60. The total amount was charged to my credit card immediately after booking the rate through the internet. I had no problems what so ever at check in. I was not a slot card member when I Checked into the hotel.

I hope my experience helps with your worries/ concerns.

    Have fun in Vegas.

    Using someone else's Promo Code?

You could call the hotel and ask them without giving them any information to flag your reservation. Just ask a general question.

You will probably get so many opposing views on this that you want to hear it from the hotel.

I used the same code from someone off of here. It has already hit my credit card, and I have already paid for it, so you will be fine.

Once you pay the credit card that is all you will need to do.

Don%26#39;t worry about it, and enjoy yourself.

I think it depends a lot on the fine print of the offer. For example, the Aladdin now sends out a ton of offers with the disclaimer that the offers are only valid for the players club account that the offer was originally sent to. However, I don%26#39;t think thety have a decent system to track that info.

I do get a lot of email offers that aren%26#39;t published on the hotels websites but are not sent as a result of a certain play level. For example, over Thanksgiving I got a steal ($129/night rooms) offer at the Venetian though I had never played a dime there before. The offer was valid for anyone, regardless of having a players club card. But, I last month I booked an Aladdin offer through a postcard I rec%26#39;d in snail mail and they required a players club prior to booking.

    Clear as mud?

I would check the fine print of the offer you booked and/or call the hotel directly.

Different offers are for different people. Most offers are for the person it was sent to and not for others. You need to call the hotel and ask if that offer code was for a specific level player. Just joining the club when you arrive is rarely all that is required. CALL THE HOTEL if the offer was not sent to you and you don%26#39;t have the required player%26#39;s history they could charge you full price when you arrive regardless of a charge to the credit card.

Thanks for the responses. I think my answer was just at the top of this page. There is an ad for $60 weeknights at the Flamingo, which says to book by February 4th. I am 99% sure that this is the promo that I used -which means that it is not just a promo code for the Flamingo ';elite';. Only problem is that when you click on the banner ad it brings you to a Harrah%26#39;s page that says we%26#39;re sorry but this code is no longer valid-so I was unable to confirm that it is the same promo I used.

I was tempted today by an Aladdin offer June promo, already have hotels booked, but with the promo Aladdin came out at $639 + tax for 11 nights, normal price going through website $1849.

Very nearly cancelled my bookings but luckily read the small print.

    ';This offer is non-transferable and is therefore valid only for the Club Aladdin Member listed on this account. Recipient%26#39;s Club Aladdin Players Card and valid picture ID will be required upon check-in';

Looks like I%26#39;m not going to get the best room rate ever in Vegas and will be sticking with Paris and Ballys.

    Flamingo or Imperial Palace?

Going out in April same price for Flamingo and Imperial Palace. Which is better deal?

    Flamingo or Imperial Palace?

Flamingo, I would not let my dog stay @ the IP.

    Flamingo or Imperial Palace?

    Flamingo hands down.

They are side by side on the strip, and I%26#39;ve heard IP%26#39;s new Deluxe rooms are improved, but overall highly recommend Flamingo over IP for:

    - Room

    - Food

    - Grounds

Casino at IP is fun, but you%26#39;d be staying next door and could visit!!

Without knocking IP, which seems to be a sport around here, the Flamingo is the better deal for the same price or even a little more.

    Flamingo

Flamingo is really nice, and the pool is one of the best on the Strip!

    walking disability in vegas

    Hello

I am going to Vegas with my mum in the summer, she has arthritis in kness and uses a 4 wheeled walking frame, I have been on numerous sites and spoken to people who have been to Vegas about the best way of us getting around the strip etc.

    Any comments welcome, please

    walking disability in vegas

Julie, I was in vegas this past October with my Mom. She cannot walk on her own. I rented her a scooter...and it was the best trip ever. I have to go out right now...but stay tuned and I will give you the name of the scooter company....and more info.

Well, let me get that for you...then we%26#39;ll chat later...

    http://www.activemobilitylv.com/index.html

Also, you can email me at PassDBacon@aol.com and I can give you specific strategies. Unfortunately, I have not posted that trip report yet.

The scooter company has scooters at many casinos...and they bend over backwards for you. Even a 24 hours phone number in case you have a problem.

    Sherry

    walking disability in vegas

I agree with the person aboe. I took mym mom in September and rented her a scooter for only $30.. a day. You don%26#39;t have to reserve one, all you have to do is go to the front desk of your Hotel and they will call for you. I believe the comoany is called Desert Medical. My mom loved it and she was able to get all up and down the strip with the scooter. She borught it to ehr room at night and charged it while she was sleeping. The battery lasted all day and night.

That is brill news, thanks to both of you.

Now I am going to be cheeky and ask best places to go etc.

We are stopping at NYNY, and are both really looking forward to it.

Especially now that you have told me about the scooter, just spoke to mum on phone and she is sooooooo excited

I just love hearing about people taking their Mom - or Dad for that matter. My mother has to have some rather risky surgery in the near future that she is really frightened of - the only thing that keeps her moving forward is my promise that I%26#39;ll take her back to VEGAS for a nice long weekend. Have fun!!

Ton of places your mom will enjoy.

    Forum Shops at Ceasars.

    The Buffett at the Wynn.

NY NY has a great NY Style food court on the Casino floor.

Take a ride to the top of the Stratosphere tower during the vening when it is jsut starting to get dark.

Eat a deep fried twinkie down on Fremont.

.99 shrimp cokctails down on Fremont.

Take a ride out to The Palms and possibly see a star or two. Yes, taxi%26#39;s do have handicapped equiped vehicles to tranport scooters.

Take in a show or two on the strip.

    Thanks all for information etc.

I am sure we will have the trip of a lifetime, we were slightly worried about how mum would get around, but with this new information, there will be no stopping us. Its mum%26#39;s 70th birthday, so I am sure it will be one to remember

When we were in LV last week, we saw a ton of people on those scooters. I think it%26#39;s great that they can enable people who need a little assistance enjoy Vegas like the rest of us!! You and your mum have a great time together!! My mom has been gone for many years now, and I sure wish I had the chance to take her to see LV!

My mom was 65 herself and she cannot walk great distances. So, the scooter helped out tremendously. All of the Casino%26#39;s accomdated her and the Taxi%26#39;s always called for special vehicles that loaded her scooter for her. Needless to say, it was well worth the $30.00 a day.

My mom has the same problem, so we only visit casinos that are less crowded, she walks to the slot machine and stays in the same general area.

She doesn%26#39;t like to rent the scooters or wheel chairs, but late at night, when she is tired and wants to go to her room, we ask the security for a wheel chair......it is free service, and all you have to do is tip the guy $5 or $10

Well my wife has two bad knees so I hear you, the best place we have stayed hands down was the Flamingo Grand Vacations, the handicap parking was close enough she could walk in and we rented a car and valet everywher else we went. It was also only feet to the Flamingo pool and they also gave us free manual wheelchair to use for the duration, it wasn%26#39;t a scooter but it was fine. It saved us the $30 a day rental. The rooms here were also really nice, had a full jacuzzi and washer dryer-frig-living area...

We%26#39;re a group of guys, mid thirties want to have a great party this weekend. Got a quote from HR and MGM that are similar, MB alittle more expensive, but would still book if someone can convince me.

Heard HR is great party but fear croud may be too young, MGM nice hotel too big?? MB nice but is it worth the extra$$. Any thoughts. Txs.

Superbowl weekend Hard Rock,MGM or Mandelay Bay

MGM would be fine for you guys for this weekend, yeah it%26#39;s big but there%26#39;s something for everyone and it will rock all night until dawn%26#39;s early light.

Superbowl weekend Hard Rock,MGM or Mandelay Bay

I%26#39;ve seen the %26#39;MGM Grand nice but too big'; comment a lot. I don%26#39;t get it. Yes, the hotel is very big. That is a good thing! There are many areas within the hotel, each with their own personality and a range of prices/options.

    Memo to Lowrance:

Our MGM propaganda campaign is succeeding! We are not the only defenders of Big Green here!

I%26#39;d vote for MGM, too. It has the best location of the three for one thing.

LOL SC. It hasn%26#39;t worked on me buddy. BUT.....

Since the one time I did stay at the Mega Green Monster was during the ';Big Game';, I%26#39;d have to say it is a good choice for that weekend. I don%26#39;t know what ';events'; they can have now since all the NFL copyright crap, but when I was there they had TV%26#39;s set up EVERYWHERE on the gaming floor and the joint was one HUGE party.

I don%26#39;t think 30 something is too old for HRH , but I do know it%26#39;s a pretty small place and may be limited in size for the game.

MB is just a pain for me based on it%26#39;s location. Fine if you only hangout in that area or you%26#39;re going to use the pool.

MGM is very big but you will love it i do.

MGM has a huge party in their arena for the high rollers. It%26#39;s mosterous.

After that, I have no idea what goes on there. Vegas is very crowded this weekend.

I%26#39;ll be at the Bellagio with my crew fro Wed-Sun night.

We go every year for the Super Bowl.

(or the Bellagio since that%26#39;s where I%26#39;ll be staying) I%26#39;ve been scouring the web for weeks and haven%26#39;t been able to find one party that you can buy tickets to (other than those at strip clubs and I%26#39;m not really into watching the game at a strip club). what do you think of luxor weddings?

getting married at luxor on feb 28th. would love some tips and or feedback on luxor weddings.

what do you think of luxor weddings?

I was married at the Luxor 3 years ago. We had an unusual wedding request. I wanted to be married in front of the Sphinx. It took some co-ordinating and special requests. The staff was great to work with. All the arrangements were made long distance and I could not have been happier with the results. I am planning on renewing our vows in two more years and are hoping we can do it the same way.

    Big Elvis

I%26#39;ve seen mention of Big Elvis a couple of times, so went to the website. My question is.......worth the time to go see him? Is he really good? TIA

    Big Elvis

Definitely worth the time to see him. He is really, really good. My BF%26#39;s mother is an Elvis fantatic and she LOVED the show.

    Big Elvis

Friends of ours just came back from Elvis (We%26#39;re going next week) and she told us we have to see Big Elvis. Free entertainment.

    I mean Vegas

At the risk of being blasted, I will say I did not find his show good in a musical sense, but it was worth seeing. Whatever you think of the music I think you will be entertatined by the audience and you will definitely know you are in Vegas because this show could be performed anywhere else.

I was glad I saw him and I will go out of my way to see him again the next time I am in Vegas.

I meant could NOT be performed anywhere else.

So you%26#39;re saying we won%26#39;t see him at Summerfest this year, huh przyk!?

As someone who lost a lot of weight due to health issues in 2006 (and who is still struggling to lose more!) I pity the poor soul. He can%26#39;t have too happy a life off-stage. Maybe if he could at least slim down to the size the real Elvis was when he died he might feel better and live longer. I don%26#39;t know if gastric by-pass is a medical option for him, but he needs an intervention!

We just saw him about a week ago and enjoyed it. The price is certainly right. Make sure to get there early enough, so you can get a seat, because the area he performs in is a small one. We didn%26#39;t stay for the whole show, because we didn%26#39;t get seats and my back can%26#39;t handle standing for too long.

    Hope you enjoy it.

FWIW, he takes an hour-long break between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm, so plan your arrival accordingly. Great Elvis voice.

Thanks for the replies. I think I%26#39;ll make it a point to see him. :-)

He is definitely worth seeing. I like to go every time I am in Vegas. He really is that good. After listening to him sing for a while you almost (but not quite) forget his size. Go early to get a seat. You can always play the machines nearby if you don%26#39;t want to stand. The ';lounge'; is really one small section of the casino.

Any comments on the above restaurant?

We are thinking of booking it to eat after our friends wedding. They are getting married around 5pm, then a limo trip along the strip and then onto the Strat for dinner between 7.30 and 8.

Hopefully it will be really nice or can anyone recommend anywhere else?

Thanks again for all your help.

We have eaten at Top of the World the last two times we were in Vegas. I have nothing negative to tell you. Its not as classy as a few places I%26#39;ve been in but classier than most. The view is amazing and the food was very good. Both times the server was just what we like - very attentive but did not hover. We requested a booth both times. I think they are real cozy plus you face the glass. We got there just before dusk to experience the view in daylight and stayed for a complete turn. Never felt rushed, we could have stayed longer but we were wanting to smoke. Watching the darkness settle and the lights come on was worth the price of the meal. The helicopters flying by the glass was pretty cool too. We went out on the deck - my husband actually enjoyed it. I enjoyed it also but no further than reaching distance of the wall. The look of panic on the faces during the ride that just kind of hangs over the edge was interesting too. We have some beautiful photos of the sky and mountains. We%26#39;re not planning on going back in March because we want to try something different but I think we will go back someday. I hope you do try it and enjoy it as much as we did.

how expensive is it to eat there?

A fantastic view with average food.

My husband and I are going to vegas in June for our anniversary and I booked dinner there. I looked on their website and saw some pictures, the booth looks really cozy and romatic, but I%26#39;m wondering if you could see out the windows very well? Would you recommend sitting at the booth or at a table right by the windows, which has a really good view? Thanks

    Jennifer

We go to this restaurant anytime we visit Vegas with someone who has never been. The view is unbeatable. The food is good, not the best in town. It%26#39;s a little pricey but by no means would I consider it outrageously so. Last time we went it was about $170 (for 2 including tip) including one bottle of wine. I highly recommend it.

I prefer sitting in a booth. You get more space and you are facing the windows.

We are thinking of going to Top of the World for lunch. Has anyone been there for lunch? Do you need reservations? What is the average cost of lunch?

If you are going just for the view it will be fine. If you going for a fabulous meal I think you are going to be disappointed. The food is o.k. but only that. I think you are definitely paying for that view- not the food. It is not cheap. For that amount of money I would rather go to a restaurant that serves great food- Hugo%26#39;s Cellar, Andres (original) or Rosemary%26#39;s. They are all off strip but well worth the trip. Then I would go to the TOW lounge or Voodoo Lounge(Rio) for some drinks and the view. From what I have read the Alize restaurant (Palms) has a great view and good food-but I have never been there. .

i haven%26#39;t eaten at either, but we love both the lounge above top of the world and

mix at THEhotel @ mandalay bay.

i would reccomend considering Mix from what i%26#39;ve seen and read on here.

We got married in Vegas almost four years ago and went to this restaurant and with two other couples for our wedding dinner. We stayed there for about three hours, had great service, the food was good, the view was fabulous and we had an incredible time. Would definately recommend it. We are going in March and plan on going back.

and the average lunch price was ??????
