If those are your only 2 choices. Excalibur.

Southpoint is off strip and the food is 3rd rate.

Excal is connected, or very near, to some very nice places to spend time and eat. You won%26#39;t want to spend time and eat in Excal%26#39;s 70%26#39;s rec-room decor with the funny smells, or the unappetizing buffet. Eat at mandalay Bay buffet. MonteCarlo and Luxor are OK too. Many other nice restaurants at Mandy, and MGM a short walk away

South Point Buffet is a step below taco bell.

Orleans is the the place for you.

I have stayed in both and South Point is clearly the nicer. South Point buffet is at least the equal of Excaliber and the rest of the resort is much nicer.

Excalibur....and make sure u get the prime Rib at sir galahads if u stay there..

the south point is going to be two taxi rides to the strip each day. Its not within walking distance and you may need to take two buses to get to mid strip. Moral of the story, stay at a better strip hotel.

Travelling all the way from the UK, you should stay on ';the strip'; -- preferrably mid- or south-strip.

South Point is a nice hotel, but it%26#39;s eight miles away from the ';bright lights'; and the ';Vegas vibe,'; sitting in the middle of suburban sprawl as far as the eye can see. You%26#39;re not travelling all that way just to sleep in a nicer room -- or to spend hours every day waiting for a shuttle bus and sitting in traffic.

Excalibur is in a great south strip location. It%26#39;s not the greatest hotel in town, but it is a full-service resort and it%26#39;s certainly worlds better than most budget-oriented hotels I%26#39;ve visited in the UK and EU. That%26#39;s my experience, anyway.

When are you travelling? Summer rates in LV generally start dropping in April or May, so you may find bargains on better strip hotels if you%26#39;re visiting mid-June through August.
