Fall Promotions/Deals?

Booked a trip via airline miles already for Oct 3rd-7th (I know Columbus weekend but it was the only time we could go...).

Question is when should I start looking for the best deals? I did an initial search and it seems that most hotels only offer their current promotions until late Spring. I was thinking of booking a backup reservation now that I could cancel later. One that I found is $129 at TI if I book Sept 30th for 7 days but for my dates the price jumps to $179 a night. If I book the 7 days and then cancel the first 3 would I retain the $129 rate or would it automatically change to $179?

Thanks!

I would recommend choosing a hotel that appeals to you . . . and booking it directly with them . . . now. SHOULD the prices go up, you%26#39;re protected. Just be certain that the cancellation policy will allow you to change if you desire.

Then sign up for email specials at the Web sites of all that appeal to you. The specials will likely not start coming until August . . . maybe July.

Hotel rates in Vegas vary from date to date . . . depending upon demand and day of the week--weekends are typically higher. If you look at the ';calendar'; on the TI site, you%26#39;ll see the rate assigned to each date. If you add all the dates of your visit together and divide that number by the number of nights of your stay, you%26#39;ll get the average . . . which I think is what you%26#39;re getting when you enter your dates for the reservation. Your weekend rates are significantly higher than mid-week rates . . . so that increases your average daily rate when you eliminate September 30 - October 2. Does that make sense?

Thanks coffeemug for the advice!

The hotels that I have already targeted and signed up for specials are TI, Paris, Signature at MGM, MGM, Mirage and to a lesser extent Bellagio, Venetian if able to get a reasonable deal (seen some people get good last minute deals there).

I realize that the price in Vegas always goes up on the weekend but the breakdown that TI shows when I enter the dates is $129 each night for 7 nights when I start from the 3rd the price is $179 each night. I don%26#39;t think they%26#39;re doing an average of total nights and dividing evenly because if I compare it to the Mirage their price starting from the 30th is $139 a night and on Sat night it jumps to $259 whereas if I start from the 3rd the price is $209 a night and again on Sat night jumps to $259.

I guess it never hurts to try reserving from the 30th and calling later to cancel the first 3 nights and see what happens since at worst I can cancel it altogether...

The reason why you have the price difference is because the Sept 30th would be a Sunday arrival while the October 3rd is a mid-week. I find that if I arrive on a Sunday that the hotel will bend over backward to get my business, thus a cheaper rate. You can try booking starting the 30th, but I think they%26#39;ll adjust the price when you call to cancel the first few nights.
