Hello...
I%26#39;ll be coming to vegas on Thursday, staying at the Hilton for first three nights, then the Venetian the last (my wife has a meeting there the following week)...
Anyways, I have read most of the reviews in the hotel portion of TA, but they seem really polarized, some really good ones, some really bad ones. Any further information that anybody can help me with would be appreciated. Also, with staying here, is there a taxi route I should ask for when taxing from the airport.
I am a HHonors VIP Gold member, and booked using a special 3 days for 150, and plan to use the $20 trick to get to one of the renovated rooms. I would have liked to stay more in the thick of the strip for our first time, but the prices weren%26#39;t great, probably because of NFR...
Hilton Las Vegas
Dumpy,
I too am a Hilton Honors member (Diamond) and I stay at the LV Hilton a couple of times a year. I have never had a room there that was below the Hilton standard and I have never used the $20 trick here. May not be as swanky as the Bellagio, Wynn or the Venetian but doesn%26#39;t cost as much. In Vegas, how much time do you spend in the room anyway?
As a HH Member, you get the breakfast buffet for free and it%26#39;s very good. There is a VIP line in the restaurants and with you HH card you just walk past the people in line.
Sunset Strip is a very good show in the lounge and it only cost 1 drink.
The casino is smaller than many but the table minimums are usually lower as well. There are non-smoking tables too. The staff is very good and always friendly. We have seen several famous people here, usually old school famous, and the staff has told us they stay here because it%26#39;s off the strip.
There is never a wait for a taxi here like at many of the hotels and the monorail stops at the Hilton and you can ride it to the rest of the action on the strip.
A taxi from the airport cost $12-$15 depending on traffic. Just tell the driver to stay off the strip and NO TUNNEL.
Have Fun and Good Luck
Hilton Las Vegas
I think the Hilton is so underrated.....The only downside is it%26#39;s off strip..but if you have a car...no problem
For the value ..the rooms are nicely decorated..
Got a free upgrade..without ';the $20. trick';( Just asked nicely )
The buffet was ok...for the price..
The mexican restaurant was good...and the 24 hour place was also good for a quick snack..
Parking was very easy and not 1000 miles away from the room ( Like Aladdin!!! )
It also has a easy to access monorail stop...
Would stay there again if the offer were too good to pass up!!!
BTW%26gt;%26gt;We stayed there before the renovations............
Thanks to your replys thus far...
I%26#39;m another fan of the place. It%26#39;s certainly not in competition with Bellagio, and Venetian is much nicer. But I like the LV Hilton, I stay there 2-3 times a year. But it wouldn%26#39;t be my first choice for a first-time visit. But if that%26#39;s what you got, that%26#39;s what you got. :)
In addition to the free breakfast buffet, your Gold or Diamond HHonors card will also get you into the spa for free, and also serves as a line pass for the coffee shop or other places if they have a long line.
I will disagree a bit with the other comment about not having lines for a taxi. I%26#39;ve seen quite a few times when the Manilow show lets out, or at 6:00 or 6:30 when people are heading out for dinner and show, there can be a long line for a taxi just like at any other property.
Oh yeah, I really like the sub shop in the back of the sports book. Reasonably priced huge subs. Good stuff.
Hi
Stayed 2 nights at Hilton this April, liked the rooms but there is no security at all to stop anyone getting on the elevators which seemed strange as these days most hotels have a guard asking for room keys.
All in all we found the place good value and enjoyed the Music and Passion show.
Don%26#39;t think we had a new room but the room was OK anyway and a nice view over the golf course.
Regards
Clive
One thing to remember about TA hotel reviews. They are very bias. Some of the worst I have ever seen. Take them with a grain of salt.
I stayed at LVH last year and ended up checking out early--the renovations were in full swing and I didn%26#39;t like all the drilling. Taxi lines were VERY long when I needed a taxi which was 2-3 times. I thought their dinner buffet was a good value. Included beer and wine.
As others have said, if you don%26#39;t mind staying away from the Strip, it%26#39;s a great place to stay!!
We stayed at the Hilton and the room was nice, big and clean. My husband enjoyed playing blackjack in the main casino. Good vp near the sportsbook, I got a royal there! The buffet is priced decently, it is not a real fancy one but the food is good and the price is reasonable, especially for lunch. We stayed there when the monorail still had the lower prices, not sure if we would stay there now. We generally don%26#39;t bother with a car.
I have not stayed at the Hilton, but I have gambled there. The big drawback is, as others have noted, that it%26#39;s not on the Strip. You can certainly walk to the Strip from the Hilton but it is not convenient. The monorail does stop there though.
I enjoyed playing blackjack at the Hilton. The table limits were reasonable and the overall atmosphere was friendly. While I was there, there was some kind of craps or poker tournament going on, and people kept coming over from that to play BJ either when they lost or while their partners were playing in the tournament. The dealers were nice.
There are a lot worse places that you can stay in Vegas. All things being equal though, I would rather be on the Strip or even someplace like Rio with a good shuttle system.
