I Booked through Travelocity

And when i rang up last week, they%26#39;d forgotten to write down my request for an extra bed in our room, either rollaway or camp bed, as we have 3 single men in our room, and only 2 double beds.

If they haven%26#39;t sorted this by check in, what are my chances of blagging a room upgrade to compensate for their incompetence? Do you think they%26#39;ll offer me one?

I Booked through Travelocity

The hotel is not responsible for what Travelocity does. They are not likely to offer you a room upgrade based on Travelocity%26#39;s mistake. If you want a free room upgrade- just ask for it politely. If they have rooms available you might get it. If you need an extra bed you can just ask if one is available. You can call the hotel directly so they can note it on your reservation. Never count on a free upgrade for any reason.

So if i just politely enquire as to whether there are any upgrades going they%26#39;ll consider it? They won%26#39;t look at me funny or think im rude?

Do i just say it whilst im paying, something like:

';I don%26#39;t suppose there would be any chance of a room upgrade would there?';

Or

';This is slightly cheeky, but would there be any possibility of getting our room upgraded? or would i have to pay for that?';

Discussion of upgrades on this forum is relentless. Use the forum search (box in upper right of page) to see more old posts about this than you%26#39;ll ever have time to read.

As vp03 said it%26#39;s not the hotel%26#39;s fault so they won%26#39;t feel obliged to help you. It always pays to book with a hotel direct rather than through a third party to avoid this sort of thing happening.

Some people believe it is harder to get a free upgrade if you book through a third party site. Other people believe that showing a $20 under your credit card helps. I can%26#39;t really comment on either one of these since I have not done them.

Many people (heck- it seems like most of the people on this forum) ask for upgrades so I would give it a try. All they can say is ';no.'; I don%26#39;t think you are going to get funny looks. And if you do- who cares?

Thanks for the advice. I think im just going to smile a lot, be polite as i can, and when she%26#39;s entering my details, i%26#39;ll just ask if there are any possible upgrades available, as 3 lads in a room might get a bit cramped in a room designed for 2 people. Hopefully she%26#39;ll offer me something if im nice enough. If not, at least i tried hey?

That%26#39;s the attitude to have!!! ;)

It%26#39;s either that way, or i could make a slight complaint, and see if they respond.

My complaint being that i did the same deal last year, a room of 3 and a room of 2. Both rooms were the same size, fairly small, and the only addition for the room of 3 was a rollaway bed in one, which took up half the space of the room. I was going to say that i felt it was a slightly rough deal, as we all paid an equal amount, yet the person who sleeps on the rollaway bed is getting a bit less. I was also going to say when i booked a room of 3 i was expecting a little more room considering there were 3 of us, and i was hoping that this year if possible they might be able to provide us with something a bit more spacious?

Not really a complaint as such, but more of a sob story. Do you think that might work? Its all true by the way.

Is your request for a third bed anywhere on your confirmation that you could take with to show at check in?

In any case, a request for an extra bed is merely that . . . a request. The hotels will tell you they do everything they can to honor them . . . but do not guarantee it. The same is true for requesting a room with a king size bed rather than two queens . . . it%26#39;s a request . . . you don%26#39;t always get a King.

I agree with being as polite and understanding as possible with the staff at the hotel. Your complaint here is really with Travelocity. They are the ones who should be held accountable. (FWIW, I%26#39;ve never had a problem with Travelocity.)

Good luck :)

Most hotels will provide a rollaway upon request for a fee ($25 per night is common) without any need to reserve this in advance. My approach would be to see if you can get a room with queen beds instead of double beds, then it would be easier for two of you to share a bed.

It does seem a bit of a copout though, i suppose on behalf of Travelocity. When i book a room of 3, i expect 3 beds, i don%26#39;t expect to have to share.
