Lake Tahoe for large family

I%26#39;m trying to plan a trip for 7 adults, 1 child ( 5yrs ) to Lake Tahoe. My parents are going and will not ski so the casinos and possibly other activities appealed to me. Also a ski school, tubing or snow mobiling would be a plus. However we are looking for a ski-in/ski-out condo or home that is at least 3 BR, so we can be together for dinner etc and not spread out in 3 hotel rooms. Can anyone recommend which of the Lake Tahoe resorts is the most family friendly and might meet some of this criteria.

Thanks,

Lake Tahoe for large family

I was in the same delema- 2 families (4 adults, 6 kids) plus grandparents. We were going to stay at the Hyatt Regency at Incline Village since there is a private beach great for the kids, kiddie pool, camp Hyatt, casino for my parents.... but thought the hotel rooms were too small (340sq.ft.) and the cottages right on the beach looked perfect but are out of our budget.

Anyways, found out today that next door to the Hyatt Regency is the Hyatt Sierra Lodge- 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo%26#39;s (1000sq.ft.) with full kitchen with granite counters, living room with fireplace, dining table with 5-6 chairs, washer and dryer, balcony with furniture...condo%26#39;s can accomodate 8- king in master, 2 double beds, fold out sofa. Only $200 when we go in April instead of $650 for a cottage. Plus, you still get all the amenties with the Regency- housekeeping, room service, their pools, the beach, the casino. Perfect for families, I think! Good luck!

The Hyatt Sierra Lodge is very attractive from the outside. I have never been inside so I can%26#39;t say. I can say that typically you think of next door as being lateral however the High Sierra Lodge is not so much next door as behind the Hyatt tower. Now if you know where the tower section is located then you can imagine how the Lodge is locted further back (away from the lake) from that.

If you don%26#39;t know how the Hyatt is structured I will attempt to describe it.

The Hyatt has a restaurant and banquet rooms with a dock right on the beach. Next to that is the sandy beach. In this area there is a series of 2 story cottages surrounding pine trees and grassy areas. These grounds are pretty attractive and you would expect to see wedding receptions in the grassy areas during the summer. As you move away from the lake and past the cottages there is a street (there is a covered overpass that you can use for safety reasons) . On the other side of the street is the casino and tower area as well as the garden rooms, pool and the spa. There is also a large parking lot that wraps around the casino and tower area. At the far side of the parking lot is the Sierra Lodge area. There is at least one small pool between the Units and the tower area and just off the parking lot. I hope I have been able to give you a good idea of where the Lodge units are located.

Huladolz, you got a great room rate a the Hyatt High Sierra Lodge Time Share, It is usually 50 degrees in the day in April, so be prepared. Are you getting two units with your group of 12? The beach activities %26amp; kiosk don%26#39;t open up until summer, but you can use the Hyatt%26#39;s huge main pool with indoor swimming entrance and there is plenty to do around the lake during the day. The Stillwater Spa is really nice. Try the hot stone massage. We%26#39;re going for a family ski trip in a couple weeks, and I can hardly wait to have one! Our HS rate is $300 a night as owners, but it%26#39;s prime skiing season (except there is no new snow) and we feel lucky they had an opening, as that is great price to house 8 people. It would be double in the summer.

The HS is perfect for a family, and the inside is very smartly designed. We own a TS there for July 4th week and take our extended family. The dining room table does have 6 chairs, plus you can pull up a couple others from around the room to seat more. They also supply high chairs/cribs. Also you have a built in lap top station at the end of the kitchen with high speed and a window looking at the mountains. The housekeeping comes on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Suzie did a great job of describing the layout of the hotel and TS. The six buildings were built on the old tennis courts behind the tower. We watched them being built for a year and were drooling to buy, as there are only 60 units. We handpicked our unit in Bldg. 5. Most of them look out over the stream, trees and (soccer) park, and mountains in the background. It%26#39;s a georgous view. No buildings in sight or road noise. We%26#39;ve never used the overpass to walk to the lake, as there is a 4 way stop sign at Lakeshore Blvd. and it%26#39;s easy to walk accross the street. I think the covered overpass was built for heavy snow. The parking lot was paved among the grove of pine trees, I%26#39;ve never seen anything like it. The one swimming pool is next to Bldg. 3 and the TS Club House, not off the parking lot. BBQs are located there, as well as a huge TV screen to watch movies or DVDs in the club. There is also a kitchen if you wanted to reserve it for a gathering of your group.

Do you know what unit/bldg. you got? Any questions? There is a large supermarket in the Village, which has everything. Hope you have a great time.

Thanks for the detailed info Suze and CAnative. I called the lodge directly and they gave me a $454 rate and could not give me the $199 rate which is an online special. Even the lady I talked to said, wow, that is a great deal. I asked her, if there are any ';bad rooms'; like one near a noisy generator or something and she said no, it%26#39;s pretty quiet and nice here...I will request building 3, 4 or 5 but I guess with it being a special, you get whatever you get but she assured me that all the condo%26#39;s are nice.

CAnative- when were the condo%26#39;s actually built?? I figure we will just enjoy the property, the pools and beach but what else is nearby for kids to enjoy? Thanks for your help!

Hula, grab the online special rate. It is fantastic.

We are assured of our unit every July, but when we stay other times of year we get a unit, that an owner is not using. One Thanksgiving we got upstairs at Bldg. 2 wtih a deck, and it was fine. Didn%26#39;t need the grassy yard for our grandchild, as everything was brown, with patches of snow on the ground.

I will guess the units were built about 1999. We first stared staying there in 2000. However, the upkeep is really good. Every year they paint two of the buildings, and rotate changing the carpeting, bedding or TV/DVD/Stereo equiptment, then start over again. All are decorated the same, but there are 3 floor plans the way the bedrooms are connected to the living area.

What else is there for kids in April? There is a city park with playgound equiptment nearby at the lake. The hotel rents bikes, and we ride the bikepath on Lakeshore Blvd. for a couple miles. Do plan to drive around the lake one day.
