Avoid the Flamingo!

We arrived at the Flamingo at Midnight on Thursday, January 25th. Our room was on the fourth floor and surely about as far from the elevator as possible. Immediately upon walking into the room, the smell of cigarette smoke was present, but overwhelmed by the powerful odor of air freshener. My travel partner and I both began to develop a headache. Also, the shower tiles were ridden with mildew. I called down to the front desk and was told that we would be moved to a room down the hall(again, worlds away from the elevator). This room was just as bad as the previous room. It also reeked of smoke and perfume. We called down again to the front desk, told them we that we would stay in this room since it was late, but we insisted upon a new room in the morning. The next day we were moved to another room, again down the hall and away from the elevator. The exterior of the room smelled literally of feces, and upon entering the room, we were appaled to see the carpet littered with stains. We were not sure if the stains were fresh or if they had anything to do with the feces odor. We were appaled that this hotel was offering us rooms that were so unbearable and disgusting. Again, we called down to the front desk and complained. This time, we were moved to an ';upgraded'; suite down the hall. The door lock did not work, so we had to again call down to the front desk and wait for the bellman to bring up new keys. The keys did not work, so the bellman returned to the front desk and sent a maintenance staff member to the room. He determined that it was not the keys, but rather the lock, that was not functioning properly. We waited until he returned to replace the lock. After fourty-five minutes of waiting, we finally got into the room. The room was not new, by any means, but at least it did not smell of anything in particular. We tried to access the internet via the keyboard and television in the room. When this did not work, we were told that the room was not supposed to be internet-enabled. Why, then, were a keyboard and internet instructions available? Given the circumstances, I used the internet station near our elevator to access the internet and print my boarding pass. Well, this did not work either. After spending an exceptional amount of money, I had not gained access to the internet or a boarding pass. Frustrated, I approached the front desk. They did not offer me a refund for the internet computer, but rather informed me that they could fax my information to the computer company and that I ';should'; receive a refund. I then had to spend more money to access the internet via the hotel%26#39;s internet center. When I tried to store my valuables in the hotel safe, I discovered that the safe was locked and would have to be reopened. Having been through enough already and knowing how long it might take to unlock the safe, I decided to just ';hide'; my valuables instead. I was nearing the end of my stay and I had just had enough.

As you can imagine, I would not recommend staying at the Flamingo. The hotel is old, the carpets are dirty, the showers are full of mildew, and the smells in the rooms are unbearable. Few of their services are reliable and the staff are not efficient in providing their assistance. We were very disappointed in the way that our room situation was handled, since we never seemed to acquire a room that was at least satisfying.

Recommendation: Spend your money elsewhere.

Avoid the Flamingo!

Wow- Sorry you had such a bad experience. I found the Flamingo to be basic but nice and clean on my visit last summer. I thought for the price, location, and basic room, it was a great spot.

I am even wearing my Flamingo hat as I type.

Avoid the Flamingo!

I love the Flamingo stayed there last year for my first visit to Sin City and like it so well we are staying there again 12 days. however we will be in a go luxery room . not having gone to work i had no need for internet so we just took our flight itenerary to the reservationist and she printed our boarding passes fo us for free. we flew sw and she did it in a timely fasion and even got us A boarding passes. sorry to hear your expierence was not as pleasant.

Perhaps the Go Deluxe rooms are in better shape. If you do not need to print your boarding passes, then I would avoid trying to use the internet at this hotel. I hope that your stay is a better one than ours!

Sorry about your bad experience. I have to ask did you request a non-smoking room? I noticed on your previous posts on this board you asked for recommendations between the Flamingo, MGM, and NYNY so I am wondering why you chose the Flamingo if the prices were the same since posters mostly recommended the latter 2? And a few even mentioned the worn rooms??

I stayed at the Flamingo 2 times last year and never had a problem and I am staying there again in 5 weeks. I know some of the rooms are a bit worn, but you get what you pay for and the Flamingo is one of the cheaper, and is the oldest hotel on the strip so it%26#39;s not going to be the quality of the others.

Very sorry to hear about this experience. We stayed there one time and was upgraded to a large room with a great view. The staff were very friendly, and we are not hesitant to go back. Must have been very disappointing. They didn%26#39;t give you anything??

I can%26#39;t comment on the Flamingo, since I%26#39;ve never stayed there. But I do have a suggestion about your boarding pass. I never worry about trying to get it printed when I travel. Just check in via my cell phone and when I get to the airport print my boarding pass on the computer/kiosk. Very quick and easy. I always fly SWA. And always get an A boarding pass.

Sorry your room(s) were so bad, hope the rest of your trip went well.

In the beginning of 2005 they had an outbreak of the Noro-virus in the Flamingo. We were looking for a hotel at that time on Tripadvisor for our stay in May, so it%26#39;s clear that we avoided this hotel like the plague. Does anyone else remember this? They didn%26#39;t even warn people upon arrival. Guests found out when they were entering the room where there was a note upon the desk about the illness, so by then they already were contaminated. There was mention on Tripadvisor that Flamingo doesn%26#39;t clean their rooms properly.

Negative experiences are unfortunate and I sympathise with all who%26#39;ve had them but never read too much into reviews that appear on sites like TA. People who have great experiences at a given hotel are far less likely to post a review saying how great it was than somebody who%26#39;s had a bad time and needs to get it off their chest.

For every one dissatisfied guest there%26#39;s probably fifty satisfied ones. It%26#39;s just that they%26#39;re not as likely to post reviews.

Your experience sounds bad. I stayed there in December and upgraded to a GO room and just loved the room. I will stay there again, but I am still in the mode of trying new places each time for now.
