Best check-in time to try for an comp upgrade?

We%26#39;re coming to Vegas for 8 nights in May and have booked into the Luxor 24th thru 27th and Mandalay Bay 28th thru 1st June. We%26#39;re arriving at the Luxor at approx 10 pm on the Thursday 24th so not very hopeful of an upgrade ahead of the weekend but I%26#39;ll give it a go. On Monday 28th we%26#39;re moving across into the MB and I%26#39;m hoping it may be possible to be ugraded. I realise an upgrade will be down to availability, how busy the hotel is, and possibly the motivation of the desk clerk but I%26#39;m hoping by staying midweek our chances will increase.

Any thoughts on the optimum time to try? Official check in time is 3 pm but we%26#39;ll be checked out of the Luxor at 11pm so I was wondering if going across to MB at that time might be best before rooms get fully allocated.

Any help/advice appreciated.

There%26#39;s no easy answer to this as there%26#39;s so many intangibles involved but what you say is generally correct. You%26#39;ve usually a better chance of an upgrade the earlier in the day it is simply because fewer rooms will have been allocated.

Interesting, I would have thought it would be the other way around - that you%26#39;d have a better chance of getting an upgrade later when they figure they are unlikely to get any more traffic to fill the unsold rooms.
