So, some friends of ours are getting married at the MGM Grand in July of this year, and we%26#39;re trying to figure out how we should book our stay and would appreciate some tips from you knowledgable types.
So, the wedding is at the MGM Grand, and we really enjoy poolside time, so staying at the MGM is tempting. The wedding has a block booking rate of $160 per night - Grand Tower (posted rates are around 200). Another option is that we could book at the Aladdin/Planet Hollywood using our airline rewards, so would only have to pay taxes and whatnot.
So, is it worth it to stay at the MGM for that price? Can we get a better price another way?
If we stay at the Aladdin, is it hard to get into the pool at MGM with some of the people staying there?
Also, is it possible to get your room upgraded by tipping at check-in, and if so, how much should be tipped?
Thanks in advance to anyone who made it through all of that.

Going to Vegas for wedding in July - looking for some advice
As you say, staying with your friends at the MGM is tempting and even though you could get the Aladdin with a big saving I%26#39;d lean towards staying at MGM just so you can feel more part of the wedding party. If you book it keep checking the rates and if they come lower than the $160 you%26#39;ve booked then call them and they should honor the new lower rate. July tends to be a reasonably quiet time in LV and there%26#39;s every chance there%26#39;ll be a lower rate nearer the time.
If you stay at MGM you won%26#39;t be worried about getting access to the pool there. Vegas pools are officially for hotel guests only and whilst you%26#39;d probably be able to get in as your friends are there (by shuffling room keys between you), it%26#39;s far better to do it all honestly.
The topic of upgrades and how to go about getting them is discussed on this forum several times a day. Type upgrade into the search box (upper right of page) to see more old posts about this than you%26#39;ll ever have time to read.
