First professionaly sports team that Las Vegas will get?

It is rumoured that Vegas will get the rights to a professional sports team within this year! Possibly a few more in the next few years? What is the first league that will give vegas its first professional sports team?

My hunch is the NHL (yawn).

So many of the traditional hockey cities are seeing their franchises relocating to warm weather locations I%26#39;d have thought that Vegas must be high on somebody%26#39;s list.

I%26#39;d love it if Roman Abramovich or Donald Trump or somebody like that started a basketball team up in Vegas.

Then once it%26#39;s set up, they proceed to buy half of the talent of the NBA to play for them.

VegasWranglers07, fortunately American pro sports don%26#39;t work (except arguably in baseball) like the ludicrous set up in European soccer where championships are won by the biggest bankroll. College drafts and salary caps ensure that crazy billionaires can%26#39;t just buy success.

Damn it, that%26#39;s a shame. Although the MLS is seemingly headed that way, since they got rid of their salary cap to offer Beckham a $250m contract.

imho this town wont support a pro team too many other options for your entertainment dollar

I cant imagine football unless it is in a dome with ac.Even baseball would have a hard time attracting a crowd for 9 innings in the summer heat. I think basketball would be the best fit.

Major league sports have deliberately avoided Las Vegas precisely because of the association with gambling. I believe there have been pro football teams in Las Vegas in leagues that competed with the NFL (USFL, XFL).

However, because of the huge population growth it has become more feasible to site a team in LV. Most likely, it would be called ';Nevada'; rather than ';Las Vegas';, again to try to remove any association with gambling.

I think an NBA franchise is most likely as the NFL is not looking to expand anywhere but LA and the other two leagues are not in good shape financially for expansion.

well there is a AAA baseball team that has played during the summers for more than 20 years there. Phoenix has a MLB team that plays during the summer. The humid heat that KC and STL and a few other MLB teams play in is much worse. UNLV football begins practice in Aug and practices 2x%26#39;s/day in the heat. I lived there for 10+ years you get used to it, its not that bad.

the major of las vegas tried to bid on the san diego chargers. I remember seeing it on the news and he wanted it to be named after himself, calling them the las vegas oscars..lame in my opinion. luckily the chargers dont want to leave us!
