OK, seems like Vegas is getting so expensive during February and March, I am considering going to Reno in February..I can get flight and room at the Sands for about half price of Vegas....flight is about 180 dollars from Seattle and it figures out about 15 dollars at the Sands for 5 nights...tax and fees included...Southwest airlines(which I don%26#39;t like the cattle-call boarding)...I have read some bad reviews on TA about the Sands...I have stayed there many times, but it has been a few years, and always had the tower with a good view.....I have been staying at the Eldorado or CC or Legacy the last times....Has the Sands really gone downhill so much in a few years?? Has the underground railroad helped with the late night noise? Thanks for your replies...Also, I see that there may be a new hotel/casino built in Reno...any idea where it will be located?
How Is The Sands Now??
Jungle,
I walked thru the Sands in December, only to seek out the ski rental shop. My impression is that it is old, and smokey. The piece of information I have to offer is about train noise. We stayed at Harrah%26#39;s in the East Tower in December. I noticed that there was no noise - day or night. Not true on prior stays. A big improvement!
How Is The Sands Now??
I%26#39;m not sure which hotel/casino you%26#39;re referring to...there is a lot of controversy over one that will be built up off of Pyramid Highway and there is another proposed to be built near the Mount Rose Highway/395 intersection in South Reno. The Reno Hilton is also being redone and is now the Grand Sierra Resort with lots of plans to expand on the property and build some condos and other entertainment venues there. Can%26#39;t think of any others in the works off the top of my head...
After reading the recent TA reviews of the Sands, I have decided to stay at the Atlantis (pay for one night, second night free) for the last week of February and first couple days of March...also received a mailer from Circus Circus for 25 dollars a night for those dates with 2-4-1 buffet, entry into slot tourney, etc.
Atlantis: Smart! It%26#39;s only 45 minutes to the slopes at Mt. Rose!
We will spend a little time there the second week in February, before getting back to South Lake Tahoe. I do not like their chips (cheks), though. Too slippery.
dereck: Thanks for your wonderful comments...I thought I was getting away from trash like you on the Vegas forum......Why do you post under dereck when you are actually VegasHomeBoy??? Oklahoma must be boring today...The Reno forum doesn%26#39;t really have your kind on here....Thank goodness!!
