Hopefully you will be there when they are active. When I was there they just laid there and looked very unhappy. That was several years ago, and I hear they can be more energetic nowadays. I plan to take a peek on my next trip to see if it%26#39;s any better. I%26#39;m sure someone else hwo has beenthere more recently can give you a better idea.

They are in the habitat from 11AM - 10 PM everyday. Since they sleep 18+ hours a day, they are rotated in and out.
I can%26#39;t really answer your question but we walked through the MGM on Tuesday night (this week) about 5:00pm and the lions were in there. We didn%26#39;t stay long but I did overhear the trainer explaining how the habitat was totally soundproof and that none of the casino smells would pass into the enclosure either.
He also mentioned that one of the females was no longer allowed to go into the enclosure as she had begun to not want to leave when they wanted her to. I guess that%26#39;s good in a sense as the lions musn%26#39;t find being placed in the middle of one of the largest hotels in the world a bad thing!
thanks for your replies folks!
The MGM lions are great. You shouldn%26#39;t expect them to be active because of course since they are cats they are often sleepy or lethargic. That doesn%26#39;t mean they are unhappy by the way - they are just cats! Sometimes the younger cats are in there and they%26#39;re more active.
I personally enjoy having a few drinks while playing poker, which is located only 50 feet or so from the lion habitat. During my breaks I%26#39;ll stroll over and check out the lions. It%26#39;s just another %26#39;only in Vegas%26#39; experience.
The Lions are a must see- I play poker at the MGM as well and I%26#39;m like the previous post- I always take a look at what the Lions are doing.
It%26#39;s very cool watching the lions sometime chase the huge plastic balls in there and pawing at them like regular house cats. It%26#39;s awesome when you%26#39;re up near the glass and ball comes rolling towards you and this huge 400lb lion comes sprinting at you.
dirkbuddy- your information wasn%26#39;t totally off base. I recall hearing that they rotate in different lions throughout the day so any one lion is only there for a few hours at a time. Perhaps that%26#39;s where your ';1 day of the week for 4 hrs.'; comes into play.
Unless they have babies there for photo ops I%26#39;ve ony ever seen two lions in the habitat at a time. If they did three shifts per day they would only need 21 lions to fill a week. According to the MGM site their trainer cares for 26 lions, which would be more than enough.
