I%26#39;m a Canadian travelling from Winnipeg (-20 degrees), all temperatures in celsius, to Vegas, hoping for warmer weather. Flew Westjet out of Winnipeg, took about 2 hours 50 minutes. Got in at about 10:30 pm. Took a cab from the airport to the Aladdin. The last time I was here in May I was taken advantage of and paid a $20.00 plus tip fare for the ride, but after reading some posts and the las vegas overview link to the left I wasn%26#39;t going to let that happen. I let the driver decide on his own which way to go and didn%26#39;t say anything. He took Tropicana, so the fare was only $10.00. Registration was okay. Had to wait a few minutes, we (me and my friend, who was there for a tradeshow) were 6 people deep in line with only three people staffed. I had been upgraded during my previous stay so I asked for the same upgrade, after some searching she said unfortunately not, due to the duration of my stay. I made my reservation from Sunday to Friday. My flight was for Thursday night but not until 11:20pm, so i decided to stay registered until Friday. She said she had an upgrade but it was only in smoking. Fine but was dreading on how smoky it would but. Hit and miss I thought and if there was a problem I would just switch to another room. No problem with the room and even now, i don%26#39;t recall there being any ashtrays. Room 2369 for reference. Yes ';69'; ha ha. Nothing spectacular but comfortable. The only thing that made it an upgraded room, that I could figure out, was the couch, which in the end made a difference. Two double beds, armoire for tv with 6 dresser drawers and clothes hanger built in. I have a lot of clothes so i called down to housekeeping for 10 extra hangers. They asked regular or pant? Both please. After 10 minutes someone came up and apologized and said they didn%26#39;t have anymore pant hangers because all the Miss America women took them. I didn%26#39;t even notice until later that printed on my keycard was, ';2007 Miss America Pageant, Monday Jan 29, 2007.'; Ok whatever, no big deal. Back to room description. Iron and board, poor quality as usual, working desk in room, two phones, alarm clock, etc. Dual sinks in bathroom across from each other as opposed to side by side. Are dual sinks standard here? Shower, soaker tub and closeted toilet. On to gambling. Some advice and also mental note for future reference, try not to hit tables if you arrive a little late and you are tired. I didn%26#39;t lose huge amount but it just sets a bad tone for the beginning of the trip. Went back to our room and slept.
I%26#39;ve never had a good nights sleep in vegas. Woke up after 4 hours and couldn%26#39;t get back to sleep. My friend had to go to work so we headed down to look for breakfast. We checked out the spice market buffet, i don%26#39;t remember the exact price but i thought it was a ridiculous price. I think about $14.00. As a Canadian I have to convert everything, i used 20%, So it comes out $17.00 plus tip, $20.00 was a bit much for breakfast. I read some posts regarding The Cantina in the dessert passage so we headed there. Basic breakfast, eggs, meat, potatoes, tortilla and beverage, after tip $10.00. My friend took off so i was on my own for the day. It was a bit cool outside in the mornings, about 4 degrees, but better than Winnipeg. Hit the strip. If you head south out of the hotel just past the harley davidson restaurant, there is a small tourist store on the left, ';mini-mart'; or something to that affect, that has internet access.
$12.00(US) for a 60 minute card, other time durations available. Walgreens, CVS on the strip and also ABC stores in the dessert passage at the Aladdin if you need any convience store items. Went to the Monte Carlo to gamble. Everytime I go there, there is a familiar smell about the place. It may be strange to you but the fragrance always seems familiar to me. After talking to the dealer and some people at the table(blackjack) about it she said that it was a myth about oxygen being pumped into casino(not my comment but someone else%26#39;s) but said it was cleaning agents that they use. After a couple of hours I lost my money and moved on. Headed north on the strip. Hit the forum shops but didn%26#39;t but anything. Made some mental notes about some items that I saw and would return at future date. If you%26#39;re shopping and need to take a break I recommend Spago%26#39;s. If you sit in the front cafe area it great to sit and people watch with great food and great professional service. About $25.00(US) for lunch. A bit much but it%26#39;s quality food. I moved on and bummed around the strip, going in and out of properties. Went as far as the Wynn then headed back to the Aladdin. I was a little tired so I sacked out on the couch and waited for my friend to return. When he got back we went out for dinner. We were discussing options and he found out from local at the tradeshow that all the restaurants at the Monte Carlo were good. I%26#39;ve been to the Dragon Noodle restaurant before so we headed there. I find most Chinese restaurants to be the same, started with pot stickers, had a noodles dish, vegetable plate, white rice and drinks, $28.00 after tip. Nothing spectacular but again familiar for myself. Did some gambling then some adult male oriented activities that evening. If anyone wants to know exactly what or even if you%26#39;ve read this far let me know and I will tell you in my continued post because I%26#39;m getting tired of typing.

Not enough hangers? Ever hear of a wardrobe bag? And as far as you making a point to mention the ';69'; in your room number, not very mature............I%26#39;d say you were maybe 18. ';Male oriented activities'; now this is funny.....10 bucks says you went to a sportsbook.

Troll. I checked your profile Rich and you most likely have multiple profiles and more in the past because you%26#39;re responding to your own posts in the second person.
Good TR sounds like you had fun,i have 6 more months to go,and i have not started counting down yet.
LMAO! 69? Rich maybe that means a lot to a Canadian.
how was the casino? and lobby as well? We stay at the Aladdin every summer (for about 5 years now) and last July was the worst...casino and lobby a mess...hard to find your way around. So was everything completed? Still a lot of construction?

Sorry FA but it%26#39;s hard for me to give you a good answer because I%26#39;ve only stayed at the Aladdin two times. This time and also last May. It has definitely changed since last May. Zanzibar cafe, Tremezzo, and also the steak house are gone. There is a make shift sports lounge and poker room, basically banquet tables with table cloths fenced off with dividers. They hide the construction by drywalling these huge walls, then make them look like normal walls when behind them a lot of work is going on. In May registration was on the second level but is now on street level right by the taxi drop off area. Tough to say whether or not it%26#39;s permanent. I would say approximately 12 spaces for registration clerks, 1 for SPG members, gold and platinum members stated on the sign. I would lean more to this being permanent because they have a large color light show display behind the desk in the entire wall, but it%26#39;s not a grand lobby and you have to take an elevator to get to the casino from the lobby. There were some construction workers in the elevator with me one time and they said at least another year before all the work is done. It took me a day to get oriented with where everything was. The construction in the hotel didn%26#39;t bother me. Our room was on a angle overlooking the pool area facing the strip in a south west direction. No real view but facing the construction of the new MGM project. Pile drivers constantly going all day and night and a lot of trucks backing up. I was on the 23rd floor so I don%26#39;t know if the height dissipated the noise. From the strip there are two entrances that i could find and you have to go through the mall to get back into the hotel.
Great TR!! Cant wait to hear the rest. Hey Rich, the word ';mature'; being used by someone who has multiple profiles AND actually has the time to make them as well as respond to them is quite funny........
k-man - thanks for the info.
any comments on the Sportsbook?...thanks.
