Before my first trip to Vegas, I watched the travel channel determined to learn everything about Vegas. I was surprised by the following:
How close the airport is to the strip
You jump on the shuttle and it seems like less than 5 minutes I am at the MGM.
Walkways:
I had no idea that there were walkways over the street for easy access to the hotels. Almost all major streets and intersections on the strip have escalators that transport you up to the walkways that usually lead to ta hotel entrance.
No coffee makers in most hotel rooms
I was amazed that the MGM does not have coffee makers in their rooms. I later learned most Vegas hotels do not have coffee makers. Strange, but true. I now purchase a small coffee maker when I arrive from one of the drug stores on the strip.
What was your biggest surprise when you 1st visited Vegas?
How massive the hotels are and how long it takes to get from one to the next. They look so close together!
What was your biggest surprise when you 1st visited Vegas?
How many mexicans/porn cards are littered around the place! I couldnt look down without seeing %26#39;24 Hour Girls at your door%26#39; cards, and i couldnt look sideways without seeing a giant sign go by on the back of a car, saying %26#39;24 hour porno in your room%26#39;.
Argggh!
We were totally surprised by how wonderful the whole trip was. We knew we%26#39;d have fun, but didn%26#39;t think we%26#39;d ever go again...until we went there. Never thought that it would become our goal to visit Vegas at least once a year from then on. That was six years ago. And so far, Vegas has never disappointed. Each new trip is as wonderful as the last one. There are still other destinations to go and things to see, we just try to work them around our Vegas trip.
The same as Myrtle. i was in complete awe at the sheer size of the hotels %26amp; casinos. Everything was so.....over-the-top, like a giant fantasy-land for adults. I instantly fell in love :)
From the responses so far, it seems everyone 1st visited vegas in the last 10 years or so. I am 36 but 1st remember Vegas as a youth traveling there for soccer tourneys in the early to mid 80';s. We would play WAY out at the park next to Sam Boyd Stadium. There was alot of desert between the strip and Boulder Hwy. The Mirage (the 1st Mega resort) had not yet opened its doors. I moved to Vegas in 1990 to attend UNLV. I have witnessed many acres of desert disappear and turn Vegas from a resort town to a regular city where Dr%26#39;s and Lawyers, bankers and retail clecks, real estate agents and insurance salesmen all co-exist with tourists.
The funny thing is is I feel like an old timer and that was only 25 years ago. 6,000 people move to Vegas each month and 3,000 people that thought they could leave where ever they came from to the greener pastures of Vegas move out. It is still a very transient city
I was actually surprised at how how small the casino floors are compared to the Connecticut casinos, especially Foxwoods. You could fit almost the entire Flamingo casino floor into the Rainmaker or Grand Pequot Casino at Foxwoods, and those are each only one room! Same goes for NYNY and some others, obviously not MGM or Casaer%26#39;s.
How much we loved it there, all in all. We had no idea it would become the kind of destination we would visit over and over again - and we%26#39;re not even gamblers!
Hi
We first came in 2000. Our first trip to USA and arrieved at night, and took a cab to the Monte Carlo. Could not take in the massive booking hall with all it%26#39;s grandure and the large hotel rooms.
Not only our we from England, (where everything looks small next to US things eg roads cars and buildings)but we live in the country surrounded by fields, no glitz around us!! Just about everything amazed us. We have of course returned nearly every year since and will be back this Easter.
Can%26#39;t wait!!!!!
I was just in awe of the sheer size of the hotels and the beautiful lights and glitz. I was blown away and have tried to return at least once every year. I never get bored or tired of Vegas.
