Where to stay?

We%26#39;re are going to be in Reno for 4 nights in early April and are trying to decide where to stay. One amenity we%26#39;d like is a good fitness center that wouldn%26#39;t charge for their guests.

Choices so far - Peppermill

Harrah%26#39;s

Eldorado

Silver Legacy

The prices are pretty compatible but not sure about their fitness centers.

Any there any other hotels we should be considering? What are your thoughts/preferences on these?

Where to stay?

Just got back from Reno this weekend and we stayed at the Eldorado and I was looking forward to working out but they do not have a fitness center. We looked into the spa at Sliver Legacy and got to take a peek at there work out room I wished we would of stayed there to use the fitness center. I would choose between Harrah%26#39;s or Silver Legacy, Circus Cirus has a fitness center also. Have fun.

Hey! I can answer for you. I stayed at Silver Legacy a few years back and one thing we really liked was their spa/workout room. You do have to pay, but only $5 per day. When you go there you can workout, use the jacuzzi, dry sauna, wet/steam room, lounge, etc. There are juices and fruits, I believe. Also, if you shower there they have all kinds of products you can use. So I thought it was a great deal. Now, I thought they had told me that if you stayed at El Dorado you could use it as well, for a fee, but I am not sure that is true. Also, less convenient since at SL you can take the elevator from your room straight to the right floor.

We stayed at Harrah%26#39;s two weeks ago. It is a disjointed complex. The only good things I can say for it is that the room was kept clean, and they have a good show - ';Let the good times roll!';. To get from point A to point B, you have to walk as thru a maze.

We visited the Eldorado one evening. It was like a breath of springtime! If we return to Reno downtown, this is where we will stay! But I have no input to the fitness centers. That%26#39;s what the ski slopes and craps tables are for!

Four nights is a lot for Reno, in my opinion. (Two nights is plenty--the downtown area is small.) I think you may be better off driving to Tahoe from Reno and staying there, BUT if Reno%26#39;s your thing, you can%26#39;t go wrong with the Silver Legacy. It%26#39;s clean, nice, and safe.

The problem with Reno is that the downtown area is kind of rough. It is not safe to walk around at night (drunks, bums, scary teenagers, etc.) And if you turn the wrong corner during the day, it%26#39;s the same.

I used to go to Reno 3 times a year to gamble, but now I go to Tahoe. It%26#39;s really just so much nicer and safer.

Anyway, the Silver Legacy, El Dorado, and Circus Circus are all connected, so you don%26#39;t have to go outside at night. Circus Circus is ALL KIDS and kind of loud.

Anyway, Silver Legacy is the one I%26#39;d recommend. Good luck!

sorry, Rose, but have to disagree about safety on the downtown streets...I have stayed at the Sands, Fitz, Atlantis, Peppermill, CC, Legacy, Eldorado, the closed Sundowner, Riverboat, Flamingo, and Comstock, and have walked late at night to each..never felt like I was in danger...the casinos are so close that I can dash inside one if I feel unsafe..even the block up to the Sands was ok...the police seem to be everywhere...course, I am 6%26#39;5'; and 275, so maybe that is why...but, there are many tourists out and about......Another possibility is Boomtown, a fun hotel/casino a few miles outside town...

My fav place to stay is the Peppermill. Though i have not ever used the fitness center there, the photos look nice of it. I have been staying at the Peppermill for the past 5 years now. It is my fav place to stay.

Another poster mentioned not feeling safe in downtown reno. I am a 33 year old female who has stayed in reno several times. I have walked from the Sands to the main casino area at night and have never felt threatned or scared. As long as you walk with someone, you would be fine.

Stay at the Silver Legacy. I really enjoyed the spa area at S.L. They are almost one in the same since they are connected. The only thing I think El Dorado beats S.L. at is fine dinning Roxys is much better than Sterlings.

Good information mrolfes. You recommended Roxie%26#39;s to me. I have eaten at Sterling%26#39;s before, and thought it was good. If Roxie%26#39;s is better, I%26#39;m sure we%26#39;ll love it.

Hope it helps some. The Reno forum is not as active as the larger city forums, so can be diffucult to get info. Another wonderful restaurant in Downtown is La Famiglia Ristorante, 180 E 1st St. It is not in a Casino. It is less expensive than Sterlings or Roxys, but still not cheap. You can easily walk from S.L. but a taxi is cheap. It is right across from The Sienna.
