We spent most of our time associated with a convention so I will keep this brief as I don%26#39;t have a lot to report.
We arrived at LAS and picked up our rental car at Dollar. We joined the Dollar Express club per suggestions on this board and could not have been more appreciative of that suggestion. We got our luggage walked out and got on their bus immediately (We couldn%26#39;t help but notice the Alamo service counter in the terminal that had MANY people lined up waiting to get help. And the Alamo customers stacked up at the curb waiting for a bus.)
When we arrived at Dollar%26#39;s lot we were checked in and rolling off the lot in less than 10 minutes. A great combination, lowest rates and best service. I am now a HUGE Dollar fan. We were also never asked if we wanted to take any additional insurance (we waived extra insurace.) Our mid-size car cost us $115 for the 4 days.)
We had picked up the JW Marriot for $84 a night by monitoring Travelaxe and booked when we saw an incorrectly entered rate. (Rate was gone the next day.) This property should have been $284 a night but they honored the ';mistake'; rate. The property and rooms are wonderful. We spent little time at the adjacent casino but it was nice. (The buffet there was the worst I%26#39;ve ever had at any Las Vegas casino).
The staff gave us a back streets way to get to the Strip which kept us off of the highway at rush hour. It was exactly 11 miles from there to the Venetian and took right at 20 minutes.
Some highlights:
LOVE - we absolutely loved this show, I would see it again tomorrow. (Hated ';O'; on a previous trip.)
We bought tickets at the ticket outlet at the Coke store for Second City Comedy at the Flamingo. It was very good, much better than a time we attended 2nd city in Chicago.
Went to the top of the Stratosphere for the first time and were blown away by the view. We got there about 5PM and stayed up in the bar until the city lights came up. It was awesome. The drinks in the lounge were very affordable and the trip to the top cost $9. Strongly recommend you take this trip, the amusement rides up there looked like a blast but we didn%26#39;t do any of them. The casino was very nice, exceeded my expectations by a wide margin.
Had breakfast at the Peppermill. Wow what a cool place, HUGE servings and a real Las Vegas look and feel to it. Will go back for sure.
We ate at Isla at Treasure Island our last night. We really like this place, wonderful ambiance and great food at reasonable prices.
Played the ponies in Wynn%26#39;s sports book our last day and love the look and feel of the Wynn, will likely stay there in a future visit.
Hope this helps a little. Will gladly field questions for a few days. Paying it forward!
Trip Report January 27 - 31 (Brief Recap)Thanks for the informative TR. I%26#39;m glad to hear the good review on Second City. We are planning to see the show on our trip later this month.
Trip Report January 27 - 31 (Brief Recap)Wow! That was some lucky mistake! Good for you!! I also use Dollar and never had a problem with them. Isn%26#39;t the Peppermill great? It is so retro- I love it. Glad you liked Love- it is different from the other Cirque shows. It sound like you had a geat time.
Thanks for the TR. When will you be going back?
blues, thanks for the report. We%26#39;re also seeing second city(next friday) and am curious about the seating configuration for the show. Is it a table/booth arrangement?
thanks! dave
AlbanyDave, Second City has a tables set-up. There%26#39;s possibly booths around the back and sides of the room but I can%26#39;t quite remember.
It%26#39;s a great show. Laughter guaranteed.
blagger, thanks for the quick reply! good to now that his board is read even at this ungodly early hour.
