Trip report/Barbary Coast

Will post my TR as a reply to this.

Trip report/Barbary Coast

We were in Vegas one night (Thursday, 1/25/07), rented a car, and drove to Phoenix to visit relatives for a week. Then, back to Vegas on Thursday-Saturday (2/1/07 to 2/3/07).

HOTEL: Stayed at Barbary Coast both times %26amp; loved it! Big rooms, 2 minutes to get down to the Strip, and excellent location. Both stays we had rooms with a view of the Bally%26#39;s sign, Eiffel Tower %26amp; Bellagio water show. Awesome to look out our room window and see it all!

FOOD: Ate 4 meals at Ellis Island, thanks to everyone%26#39;s recommendations on TA, 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners. Had prime rib for $8.95 which included salad, baked potato, green beans, and a huge, tender prime rib plus got a microbrew beer. One night, I had the $4.99 shrimp special which included salad, cole slaw, fries (more like potato wedges0, and 9 HUGE shrimp!

The breakfast specials were awesome, too. Both mornings hubby had the breakfast steak special for something like $3.99 which included a tender breakfast steak, diced potatoes, 3 eggs, 2 pieces of sausage or bacon %26amp; toast. I had the $2.49 special of 2 eggs, toast, 2 pieces of meat and hashbrowns. The second day I had the vanilla cinnamon French toast which included 2 big pieces of French toast and 2 pieces of meat. All VERY good for $2.49.

Ate dinner buffet at Orleans one evening, $13.99, and got $1 off for having a Coast Card, not impressed with their meat choices, but it was OK. Had good beef stroganoff, cheese enchiladas, and eggplant Parmesan which was a nice surprise at a buffet.

As we left Vegas to drive to Phoenix, we stopped at Railroad Pass Casino on the way out to Hoover Dam. Had their $1 breakfast special of 2 pieces of bacon or sausage, 2 eggs, hashbrowns %26amp; toast. Our sodas were $1.75, so this was our cheapest meal on our whole trip %26amp; very tasty, too!

GAMBLING: Not much luck, esp. at Barbary Coast, hated gambling there. Did shuttle over to Orleans one afternoon and Gold Coast the next afternoon and at least played a few hours and came out a bit ahead.

SIGHTSEEING/ENTERTAINMENT: Since our time was short both stays in Vegas, we didn%26#39;t go to any shows. Did get to see Fat Elvis the first Thursday at the Barbary Coast lounge, and he has an amazing voice. They pipe the music all over the casino, so if you don%26#39;t sit in the lounge %26amp; watch him, you can still hear him anywhere in the casino.

Did take the Eiffel Tower ride up one night, and what a spectacular view of the city. Had a $2 off coupon, so it only cost us $7 each and was so worth it. We wanted to go to this when we were in Vegas for Easter 2006, but it was closed due to T-storms.

Did walk up to O%26#39;Sheas one night, and they had just rung the bell, %26amp; we got to see the leprechaun pouring shots. What a fun place.

STRANGE/FUNNY THINGS: Hubby was gambling at Barbary Coast casino the first Thursday there, and I had gone up to the room about 10 p.m. A lady sat down by hubby and asked if he%26#39;s alone. First he said yes, got flustered, and then said no, my wife%26#39;s here with me. She asked where? He said up in the room. She said OK and left. Shook up hubby up a bit.

Friday night we saw two apparently homeless, scruffy guys getting arrested by two bicycle cops on the overpass/walkway from BC to Bally%26#39;s. The one guy had a sign on a piece of cardboard, ';Why lie? I need beer.'; He was in handcuffs. We came back an hour later, and the sign guy was gone, but the other man had his hat turned upside down taking in money. Wonder if he truly is homeless or just looks that way %26amp; lives in a nicer place than I do???

WEATHER: Phoenix was 68-70 while there and Vegas 60 and sunny. Flew home last night and arrived to -12 temps with -30 wind chlil. At least we got out of here for 10 days!

Overall, a great trip of visiting family and visiting Vegas. Would definitely stay at Barbary Coast again.

Trip report/Barbary Coast

Glad you liked BC. I heard something about flat screen or plasma screen tv%26#39;s in the rooms!?!?!? I am eager to try it on an upcoming trip!

Yes, huge TV on the wall. Seemed like we were in the movie theater compared to our TVs at home! An awesome TV!

Thanks for the TR. I have stayed at the BC and always enjoyed it. I went to EI for the first time in August-but only for dinner. I guess I will have to try their breakfast on my next trip. Will you be going back soon?

Great TR! I%26#39;ve never been to Barbary Coast or Ellis Isle, but will see both on my next trip. Didn%26#39;t realize that BC had so many specials on food. By the way, was only in ND once(drove from Chicago), but loved the area, also visited Montana %26amp; SD. Had a great-great uncle who owned the trading post/hotel/post office on the Souix reservation, still have some relatives in Fargo. Beautiful country and friendly people. Thanks again for the TR!

Unfortunately, we won%26#39;t be going to Vegas probably for another year.

MEAL CLARIFICATION: I need to clarify on the meal specials, those were all at Ellis Island, not at BC--Sorry for the confusion. We didn%26#39;t eat at BC at all.

North Dakota is a great place to live. We are 1 hour out of Fargo, in a small town of 1000 people. Four churches %26amp; four bars within one block of our house....Just hope some day I don%26#39;t take a wrong turn on my way to the bars and end up in church! Just kidding!

We are about 95 miles to Minnesota lakes country, and we have a camper on a seasonal camping spot May 1-Oct. 1, so we go there every weekend to fish, swim %26amp; have some wonderful campfires with our lake neighbors.

Oh the Why Lie I need Beer guy got arrested? Haha....we got a picture of him both times we went last year.....I%26#39;m sure he%26#39;s already back out there...

Yep, the Why Lie guy was handcuffed %26amp; on the ground sitting next to the other guy, with two cops in attendance. He wasn%26#39;t there when we came by 1 hour later, so I assumed they hauled him away. But his buddy had quite a bit of change and $1 bills in his cap.

I have tried the dinner steak special at Ellis Island and it was great, with these other specials you got, did you have to just ask for them or were they on the menu?

The breakfast specials were on a chalkboard as you entered the restaurant. These same meals are on the regular menu, too, but listed at a little bit higher price.

The shrimp is usually $6.95 or $7.95, and that was on the chalkboard specials list that night as well.

The prime rib is on their menu for $8.95.

We never had to wait to eat except for our Sat. a.m. breakfast, we were given a number and told it was a 20-25 minute wait. Ended up we only waited 10 minutes.
